Not as good as I thought it was.

User Rating: 5.5 | Resident Evil Code: Veronica X PS2
I bought my copy of Code Veronica the day it was released for £45 and rushed home to play the latest installment to one of my favourite game series.
Graphically the game is stunning. The light effects are atmospheric and the flesh-eating zombies have their weird beauty about them, and there are a nice variety of the undead to keep you and your gun entertained! The only downside is the ridiculous unhelpful camera view which is again present in this game. Plenty of situations resulted in me running into a hoard of zombies and recieving a good dose of damage simply because I couldn't see them.

Gameplay I believe is the game's downfall. The controls are still clunky and considering transfering onto the PS2, Claire feels heavy to manouvre. She seems to turn on the spot without any motion at all, which feels a little lazy. The damage to Claire also feels tired and monotonous at times, if she recieves 2 attacks from a zombie for instance, she runs around clutching her abdomen, resulting in the gamer finding those stupid herbs, which supposedly only grow in the area around Racoon City, but are scattered all over Code Veronica. Although the game is a good length and should provide the gamer with plenty of fun, It just all feels dated with this title.

The story was the worst point for me. In all the Resident Evil titles, I've never played through a story as irrelevant and baffling as this one. The idea that a set of twins were mirroring their lives on ants is simply pathetic!

Overall, Code Veronica is a good entry in the series but I'm afraid that it's only good. With the release of the PS2, Code Veronica could have been so much more and could have set a few standards for future Resident Evil games but sadly it doesn't set any, it simply follows a dated formula.
