Less is More? No, More is More!

My review is based on completing the game as Leon, and having completed the first chapter of Chris Redfield's campaign. Also, i feel it only fair to point out that I love killing zombies like millions of other gamers. I don't play a game to "get scared" or base my review on previous RE titles. I've loved them all, including the wonky but deliciously violent Operation Racoon City. I applaud Capcom for taking liberties with the flagship zombie game that really defined the genre. The Leon campaign is traditional survival horror with some interesting action elements introduced, and to me, it felt a little like partnering up similarly to the Uncharted series. Helena was my partner and I truly bonded with her as my friendly AI as we survived what would turn out to be one over the top action romp through zombieland. I'm a fan of QTE when they are done well, and I think they are super in this game. The transition from the spectacular cut scenes, QTE, and gameplay was brilliant. I have to believe that anyone giving this game a low score started with the other campaigns first or quite frankly were just to whimpy to finish off the final boss of Leon's campaign, as he is a tough one. I admit finishing Leon's campaign and then switching to Chris's was a little awkward, as you really go from defending yourself against hordes of zombies, to almost Ghost Recon with a wierd Zombie comic book styled mod. Crazy as it is, by the time I finished Chris's first mission, I really was taking in the chance to really let the bullets fly and kick ass squad style. Capcom has included all kind sof little bells and whistles with this one, from customizing dog tags, to buying skills. In fact, there is so much content here, that I'm afraid it is really what is turning the hard wired RE fan off. Gone are the slow moving crawls through mansions searching for a sparkling object that lets you move to the next area and a zombie hiding behind the door, replaced by over the top cinematic zombie slaying extravaganza. I'm all for it, and I can't praise the Leon campaign enough. It's a game by itself and very well done. Good luck with the end game sequence, it's very difficult. But if you beat it and wait for the credits to roll, you are treated to a great cinematic and a new mode unlock. There is alot of great fun to be had with this title. Give it a chance.
