Awww, it's just too bad

Unfortunately, I am unable to play this game. See I use a combo of mouse and joystick. I've been doing this for over a decade. Quick moves with the joystick controller and precision aiming with the mouse. I have never found a game that wouldn't allow for a combination, especially since there are so many programming options to force the controller to act like a keyboard.

No, this game has to be different. If you use the mouse, or the keyboard, the game kills the joystick. And it inconveniently posts a message that its doing this in the upper left corner of the screen. Then, when you use the controller, it kills the keyboard. Very silly, the character can turn or walk, but not both. Oh, and if you use for instance, Pinnacle or Logitech or Saitek programming software you end up with the use of the controller causing the message to flash and flash and flash. And your character sort of skips and dances on the screen. It's extremely bizarre.

I've recently played Far Cry 2, Left For Dead and FEAR 2, and those products had no problem with a mouse/controller combo.

Now, Capcom support claims this is a Microsoft problem. They have suggested in response to my request to turn off controller checking and force the game into keyboard/mouse mode that Microsoft has forced them to enable an aggressive scheme so that the 360 controller will always be recognized. Frankly, I don't think that's true. Especially since I'm also using a Microsoft KB and Mouse. I'm sure that they want me to use all of it in any combination I'd like. Capcom=FAIL.

Here's what's new: the reason for the controller glitch is the key combos for running, ducking and basically any sort of odd behavior the game needs you to perform. Quick! Press A+B on the 360 becomes Press E + V on the keyboard. Or there's a flashing E to tell you to press it over and over to run. I still think this could be mapped to allow me to use my 360 controller, mouse and KB. Especially since I can program my mouse on the fly....Still the game, though I hated re-learning the KB interface, and using it (it is really difficult to move fingers from the ASD position to press E+V and then A+D in the quicker combos) I ended up enjoying the game. So I take back my first review with the 1.5 score and entered an 8.5. I would have given it a 9.5, but the game wasn't rich enough. There wasn't really enough story telling.

I look forward to the 4 hours of story in the upcoming Resident Evil 6.
