The worst canon Resident Evil game to date

User Rating: 6 | Resident Evil 5 X360
When Capcom made RE4 action-horror I was cautious. Why? I thought my favorite horror franchise was going to ditch it's roots. But to my surprise it managed to keep the scares in and kept signature things such as moving like a tank. It also brought in a new inventory system where you put everything in a case...Then 5 came along. Oh how excited I was. I got it day 1 and regretted spending £40 on it.

First of all it says it's the most scary RE yet. No. It is an action game and a very bland one at that. With plentiful ammo and weapons, bland enemy types that pose no threat even in groups, easy bosses and the bane of my life, quick time events. The inventory system we loved in RE4 is replaced by 9 slots in which you put individual items in them. For example 1 egg is the equivalent of an RPG. Eventually you will beat the story and unlock Mercs where you and/or a partner must rack up a high score by killing enemies within the time limit (RE4's was much better) and if you get high ranks you unlock more characters who have their own weapons and levels like a cargo ship or the swamps. You will unlock unlimited ammo which, well, you'll never die with this. The story is a bore and at the end leaves you feeling empty.

If you are a Resident Evil fan that love 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica (was originally meant to be RE3 so I'll count it as cannon) and 4 leave this well alone. It might just ruin your experience.
