Resident Evil 4 immerses you in a gaming world and doesn't let go

User Rating: 9.6 | BioHazard 4 GC
From the outset of the game, a "trial by fire" is given to the user. Only minutes after starting the game are you inaundated with masses of crazed villagers to deal with. Unlike the previous enemies seen in the Resident Evil series these guys are very smart. They go through doors, protect their faces, and they even have strategies to kill you and make sure that you (as Leon) never get past where you are in the game. You just don't fight the Villagers, as the myriad of enemies get more and more diverse as the story moves along. From the outset it dawns on you that this game is definitely something special. The attention to detail is absolutely amazing. One can argue that the game has gorgeous graphics, but what makes the graphics good is what they actually do with the graphics. The water moves realistically and reflects realistically, the fire looks very realistic, and the heat effects are just jaw dropping. The lighting is absolutely amazing, second to none because it immerses you further than any game ever could. The sound is amazing, with a great dynamic musical score that changes on the fly. The attention to detail on the sound really makes the game special. Not only do you see the environment, you feel the environment through the sound. What really stands out to me is the ability to keep the game interesting. After all, running around shooting villagers the whole game is boring. Nope, the game throws hardballs at you at every turn. From Mine cart rumbles to assaulting an island with under heavy fire with a chopper by your side to beat the crap out of anyone. The game itself has quite possibly some of the best boss battles ever put in a game. The variety of the boss battles are amazing. Every boss battle can't be played twice because there are so many dynamics that could affect the battle. Some of them are absolutely amazing, like the Lake Boss in the first chapter to an amazing knife fight with an old enemy. The dynamics for the boss battles are absolutely jaw dropping and amazing. Resident Evil 4 overall is quite possibly the best experience that I have played in a very long time, this is the reason why I play games.
