Certainly the worst game with the Resident Evil name attached to it

User Rating: 3.5 | Resident Evil 2 GCOM
Everyone who has played video games in the last 10 years or so, have heard of Resident Evil. They sold just about 40 millions copies so far, so people have been playing. Every year there's a sequel or a new version or new same old remake for a new platform, like they do with Street Fighter and Dragon's Lair.

Just close your eyes and pick a random video games system and there's most likely a version of Resident Evil available. Some more obscure like Resident Evil: Genesis and Resident Evil Confidential Report for mobile phones, or Resident Evil Gaiden released on December 14, 2001 for the Game Boy Color.

It is quite impossible to count and play them all in a sane lifetime. Resident Evil 2 was a best seller and one of the most inspired game of the nineties, spawning numerous zombie-action-scary-look-alike.
The version no one played was released on the "ultimate video game system" like Tiger would tell the world in 1997. Everyone who thinks and says that the Nintendo Virtual Boy is the worst gaming machine ever should definitely spend an afternoon with the blocky looking, hard to see portable called Game Com. They had some of the best franchises ever and big names to impress, but the facts are that even by the standards of the end of last century it was painful to play and impossibly hard to watch and follow.

The glossy packaging and the uncommonness is about the best thing about this Resident Evil 2 port. Everyone I've seen turning on the game died 5 second after the music less intro, that's how difficult and badly balanced it is. They tried very hard to fit a blockbuster game into four shades of grey and a limited sound chip. There's some interest to have if you like weird games, but if you enjoy the scary and intensity of RE you will be disappointed. It is just not a fun time to spend in front of small grey screen.

I bought 10 unopened copies of the game back in 2002 for 5$ on Ebay, it makes good gift for the people I know will keep them unopened in their collection. If you can get it for that cheap along with a Game Com there's no real reason not to try it since there's was about 20 games released for the system. It's something to show your childhood friends who shares your passion for gaming when they are over.
