Reading the user reviews posted here, I figured out how people is easily impressionable, giving this game a lot of "superb" ratings only because "you can destroy everything on the surface of Mars".

Without the destructible environment, it would have been a flat game.

It is for sure something you have never seen before, and there is no doubt that it's fun and addictive, but the game become repetitive and boring after a bit.

The story and the missions are poor designed and you don't really feel as you were part of the rebels.Soon, after few hours of playing, while looking at the map, you will realize that only a couple of sectors are left to liberate, making you wonder why the EDF took control of mars for so many years, since everything was needed to wipe them out was a guy equipped with a sledge hammer.

The last mission showed me an attempt from the designer to make you feel that *it actually was* the last mission, by making it longer forcing you to travel from one side of the map to the another (to pick up an "attack team" composed of just 3 useless NPCs). During the travel you will listen to radio conversation that should create an "epic" situation, but ,in the end, the result was very bland to me.
Making the gamer feel that the game is coming to an end should be something that comes naturally, that grow upon you mission after mission, not something that you do have to force, otherwise you can't feel any differences at all between the first and the last mission.

The gunfights are flat.
I can't describe well what they look like, but they are strange.
It is the first game I've seen that don't give you the impression that something is actually been shot from my gun.
You don't feel that you are shooting, you just feel that you have to move the crosshair over an enemy and press "fire", so the enemy will die.
Even if you hit an enemy soldier, he will continue to run and shoot like nothing has happened. There is no animation that make you understand you've hit him, he just stand there taking all your fire like it is all ok,until he is dead.
...maybe it is because they wear HEAVY armors, since if you kill an enemy, and he fall over a wall, he will destroy it...

I enjoyed the game and I can't say that I didn't have fun destroying things, but that is not enough, this game has flaws, and I can't believe that people consider it "superb" only for the destructive part.
But maybe they are right..since beside that part, there is nothing much, so ,yes.. to the destructive aspect of the game, and the GeoMod engine used for it, i can give a '9' rating too.
