User Rating: 8.8 | Red Dead Revolver XBOX
I saw the relatively low score here on Gamespot before trying the game, and was positively surprised. I think the graphics is really good, except for the bit outwashed colors. They are meant to add to the "old western film" feeling I guess, but I still think a bit more colorful and bright setting would have looked better. The game excels at giving you lots of variation, there are many things to explore and master here. And, they somehow managed to put all kinds of those good ol' western cliches into the game, like the sniper being shot down from the roof and dramatically overplaying his death, fighting on top of a moving train with badguys riding next to it, the duel game mode and so on. You can even walk around in the city and visit various shops, both just for fun and for a purpose. It adds to the atmosphere. I think Rockstar did a great job in transfering the western feeling into a game, and if you like the setting then this is the best of its kind. The only problem I see is the controls, which are a bit cumbersome at times. Quickly lobbing a dynamite bar while running around shooting is hardly possible for example, but it should have been. You will also find yourself running around with the left trigger pushed down a lot, and in fact this will actually strain your finger in the long run. Why not make its function a switchable mode? These are minor things though, it is one of the most enjoyable xbox titles I played in some time, and I think the user rating here is more accurate than the gamespot rating in this case....
