As many people know Rockstar games wasn’t the first company that was developing Red Dead Revolver. Capcom was originally the developers but then they cancelled RDR. I would assume it’s because they didn’t think it would live up to the expectations they thought they would pull off. So it was as if RDR wouldn’t come out. Then low and behold Rockstar games comes out from right field and saves the game. Sending it to Southern based Rockstar San Diego, the people behind Midnight Club 2, Smuggler's Run 2: Hostile Territory and a few other games. Many people didn’t think a western themed 3rd person shooter could work out, I would disagree with them. The main characters name is Red (incase you didn’t catch on with the name of the game) and his family is murdered in front of his eyes by a evil man who was out to steal his families gold. So basically this is your average revenge plot. He is a bounty hunter so though out the game you collect bounties for the people you kill and use the money for to buy weapons, characters/stages for multiplayer and other things. They could have put more effort into the plot but that didn’t happen. Though the game has a few flaws such as enemies just standing still and not doing anything , not enough save points towards the end which has some really great shoot outs. But the bad doesn’t weight out the good. Some good points about it is the duel mini games that are in RDR. Just like in the old western movie’s your hand is drawn right next to your gun, then you pull the gun out and enter a slow mo bullet time type mode, you must pinpoint the crosshair’s towards the body parts that would kill the enemies the best way. Another good thing about it is the horseback riding/shooting at the same time. The horse feels stiff at times but it’s still great to chase a train while on a horse shooting foe’s out of the train windows. You will find most weapons you would think would be in a western themed game, old time gun’s, shotgun’s and other things to you to destroy everyone in your path. The multiplayer seems tacked on sort of added for a little extra replay value, it would be cooler if they had XBL support for online play but you can only check to see which buddies are online. They should have added the duel mini game to the multiplayer part of the game. It also would have been better if they had more than 2 players for multiplayer. The environments are done well but nothing special most of which are dull but the one’s that aren’t are well done. It would have been nice if RS could have pulled off a free roaming western game were you could ride your horse from town to town taking out bounty’s, but only one can hope that they make another RDR with this feature as it could be a big selling point. This game isn’t for everyone but if you like 3rd person shooting or if you’re a fan of western’s the you should defiantly check out Red Dead Revolver.
