YOU CAN NAME YOUR SWORD, NYA!

User Rating: 6.7 | Record of Lodoss War: Advent of Cardice DC
Record of Lodoss War, unlike both anime I've watched, focuses on a warrior resurrected by Wort, who must defeat the Dark Goddess Kardis, nya. Anti-Goddess sentiment means it loses points right there, nya. Now, if you never experienced the world of Lodoss before, things can get a bit tricky, nya. If you didn't know Parn was the enemy of the Dark Elves and foolishly said he was your friend... well, prepare to be killed by Dark Elves, nya.

The gameplay is no-nonsense, nya. You attack, cast magic, and heal, nya. That's basically the gist of things, nya. More importantly, there's mythril to be dug and weapons to be improved, nya. A LOT of improvement will be done over the course of the game, nya. If anything, this game is nothing but non-stop item improvement and leveling, nya. Old-school goodness, I say, nya. I enjoy the freedom of actions the most, nya. At several points in the game you can say a variety of things, some of which polite, some of which downright rude, nya. You can even attack allies or challenge a friendly dragon to battle, nya. Of course, said dragon will beat you up, but at least you can do it, nya! Once you become the leader of the Goblins, you can have them gather treasure for you, nya. Or you can even say "Drop Dead" and they'll kill themselves for you, nya! Now that's service, nya!

Don't worry about music at all, nya. For all intents and purposes, it doesn't exist, nya. Except in the form of footsteps, nya. Ah, footsteps... especially the loud clanging ones, nya. Yeah it's horrible, nya. Voice acting is decent though, nya.

The worst part about this game is the difficulty, nya. You WILL have to level up a lot, nya. And in the end, it doesn't even make a difference when you're up against multiple Medusas, nya. They can turn you to stone and make sure you stay that way until you die, nya. Of course, if you level up a lot and dodge their initial attack, you could probably kill them first, nya. Yep, leveling is the name of the game, nya.

While we're on difficulty, the worst boss is Wagnard, nya. That whole level is screwed up, as it seems your buddy Ashram will die there whenever you're not looking at him, nya. In fact, Ashram might just die and be resurrected as a zombie and try to kill YOU, nya. While that's all good fun, I prefer not to kill a character as cool as him, nya. But it IS kinda fun knowing that Ashram could die, and that Parn and Deedlit could die and you won't suffer any consequences, nya. Wagnard himself will summon scores of baddies while casting a red wind spell and yelling KAAAAARDIIIIIIIIS! over and over again, nya. It's annoying, nya. Of course, he's much easier if you don't care about Ashram's well-being but I just love him so much, nya!

That's about it, nya. It's frustrating and it wastes a lot of time, but in the end I just plain loved leveling up to become a monster, nya! I just wish Ashram weren't so weak, nya...
