A game with minor flaws, but still a unique experience.

I love it when developers go outside of their box and try to create a new experience for gamers. In this case, the developers created a new way to play a game that has been recreated over the years and is hard to innovate on.

Real World Golf gives you an amazing feeling of playing actual golf. What one must get past is feel for using the controller that the game was designed for. One must also get over the fact that it's almost impossible to play against another human opponent due to the fact that it's almost too much work to trade off the controller with someone else between holes. Those are minor complaints.

The controller is a base, foot pedal, gloves, and a plastic golf club. I thought it would have been just a motion sensor that would read my moves, but then I started looking at it more closely and realized that there was some work involved with getting it actually to play like I wanted it to. The gloves have clips on then, which much attatch to the base itself. The Strings, which are very sturdy (I tested it with a buddy of my extensively), track your motion very fluidly and can judge the way you hit the ball. Want to throw backspin on your ball? Use the club to hold it like you would your club if you were playing it in real life. The responsiveness is pretty accurate. Before you start playing, you have to caliberate it, which is not too big of a deal, unless again you are playing with another human opponent. All in all, the controller is nice.

Another actually flaw is the game itself. It's either too hard, or too easy. When you first start out, almost everything is set up to where you can't mess up. I thought it was incredible that I was hitting birdies and eagles on holes for my first round, but then I realized that I had everything set up as gimmies. The moment you turn off all of the help, the game gets challenging, but fun. The courses are varied, and it doesn't have anything flashy to distract you from what it really is...a golf game. No soundtrack with licensed music, just the sound of the course, and a really annoying disembodied voice (which can be turned off, thankfully).

The game also comes with plenty of options to play the game. Skins, stroke, match, driving range, everything you would want in the game. So, it makes it nice when you can't actually get out on the course and play a real round. Just kick back in your basement and take your time.

All in all, the game is good for the first time around. I believe the controller has plenty of potential, and if they come out with a sequel, it can only get better. I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of golf games, and wants a new way to play. Just make sure you have the $69.99 to pony up for it.
