An homage to the platforming days of the Genesis and Super NES with nice graphics and sound.

Rayman on the Gameboy color is a fun and challenging 2D platformer with great visuals and audio. The visuals, in addition to being technically impressive, are also aesthetically pleasing as well as each new set of levels has a unique look about it, each one more imaginative than the other. The tunes are also pretty catchy and have a good mix of recognizable chimes mixed in with new ones.

What sets the Rayman series apart from other games is the imaginative and varied ways you can interact with the environments that make the control limitations of punching and jumping a fresh experience that doesn't become repetitive and dull. You will have to punch swinging platforms and navigate through hazardous vertical tubes by interacting with living platforms.

The game has some replay value as well as the levels have tons of secrets and bonus missions which mainly consist of timed levels in which you must collect a certain number of floating balls. One of the few gripes I have about the game is that there are no Boss battles aside from the finale. I suppose it makes sense however, since this game is more about avoiding hazards in the environment than killing things. Ultimately this game is a satisfying homage to the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo days. I highly recommend it to platform fans looking for a nice challenging game for the road.
