Ragnarok Online is a great game, but needs a big push for you to keep up...

User Rating: 8 | Ragnarok Online PC
This is my first MMO RPG and I've never played MMO nor I was interested in them in the first place, when Ragnarok was introduced to me, I wasn't sure about it, but with a huge help from my friends, I've realized it could be a cool co-op game and a fun MMO RPG to play either with my friends or alone.

Presentation:

The art style is a 2D-based style, the desgin of the game is dated, but that's understandable because the game is a 9-year-old now, but nevertheless, it could've been improved. The loading time has themes and they're eye candy and beautiful to look at, but that's not something you'd spend your time on anyway.

Score: 7/10

Sound:

There's no voice acting, it's not a bad thing but there are special effects and sometimes they're noisy. Given how quickly skills are performed, nearly every 0.0000000009 seconds xD. Explosions' sounds are everywhere. They give a nice tone to the game and all. Every gesture a character makes has a sound effect and they're really right on the mood.

Score: 8.5/10

Gameplay:

you start off by creating a character based on a novice class. From there, you're exposed to different classes like Knight, Assassin, Rogue, Gunslinger, Bard and many different classes which are so familiar from Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactic Ogre.

After that, you start leveling and gaining ablilities which are referred to as SKILLS. There are two kinds of levels, your base level and job level. Each of one them plays out different role. For example, you can build up your status freely by leveling up your base level and unlocking skills by leveling up your job level. There are a lot of things to do here.

The controls are very slick and simple. You just point your mouse at an enemy and click the left button, but when using skills, it's totally different story. You assign skills by pressing the F12 and from there you open your skill menu to drag the skills you use for battles like offensive or defensive skills. You can set up skill upto F9, that means 9 skills can be used.

Builing your character's status needs experience in the game, it's not like any regular RPG I've ever played, there are classes whose status needs to be specifically leveled up. For example, Magicians get leveled up with INT "Magic Attack". Merchants with AGI "Agility". Ninja with DEX and INT "Hit and Magic Attack".

It may sound complicated and yes, whoever says the opposite clearly didn't play it long enough. I know I'm still an inexperienced player. There are lots of stuff to do, but most of the time, you'll be grinding.

Score: 8.5/10

General Pros and Cons:

+_+ Fun with Friends.
+_+ Great Combat System.
+_+ Huge number of Character Classes.
-_- no proper introduction, tutorials and instructions.
-_- so complicated when playing alone.
-_- your firt given weapon is the most powerful weapon.

The Verdict:

I can't say it's a bad game, only when first start alone. But hopefully, friend in need is a friend indeed IF you have friends playing it with you. It will a massive FUN for you. The community is very nice unlike Call of Duty games and others out there.
