Way to much walking back and forth across the world.
Where did it go wrong? Too much walking back and forth across the entire world to complete a quest that took 5 minutes or less. The monsters in those areas never changed or got more difficult, so it got boring. I finished all the quests, but boy I was glad to be done traversing the same areas over and over.
The cutscenes were also a little long and sometimes just flashbacks of things you had already seen before. I dislike having to click the screen between every line of a conversation.
Also, it was just too easy. I never died and only once had someone in my party die. If you have a magician with you, they heal everyone all the time and that takes all the challenge out of the game.
Buy this for nostalgia-sake if you loved the original, but otherwise I would avoid.
