Rage is a beautiful game, but a lackluster story mars its single player campaign

User Rating: 7 | RAGE X360
To be honest, Quake 2 was the game that introduced the first-person shooter genre to me. Not only the single-player campaign, but the multiplayer too. I used to skip high school classes along with some of my classmates just so we can play a multiplayer rounds on Quake 2. Good times! When ID Software released Rage I was more than excited. The game seemed like a blend of the post-apocalyptic Fallout experience and the shooting mechanics of Borderlands. The game delivered on some fronts, but totally disappointed on others. Read on!

Story
After a meteor almost wipes everything on a certain planet, you become part of a team of survivors who are to save the mankind after the catastrophe. The Ark survivors (as they are called) are being pursuit by the current government called the Authority. As you are trying to escape from their claws, you end up helping people in the different settlements while trying to figure out why there is a pursuit of people like you. As it may sound, the story of Rage is pretty bland, so if you are a story lover (like myself) you might be disappointed thoroughly. Not only the premise is weak, but the ending of the game is very, very inappropriate. 5/10

Graphics
Simply put, Rage can rival the Crysis series for best-looking game on Xbox 360. The visuals are outstanding, the environments are desolate and very post-apocalyptic. Overall, top notch job by Id Software as the graphical presentation is Rage's selling point. 10/10

Sound/Voice Acting
Just like the graphics, Rage's voice acting is pretty impressive as well. The soundtrack consists of ambient tracks which add to the vibe of the game, but fail to make it stand out as a truly impressive one. 8.5/10

Gameplay
Rage is a first-person shooter with excellent shooting mechanics. You have a standard set of weapons like an assault rifle, a shotgun, a pistol and a sniper rifle. While doing to main mission, you can also collect side quests to complete for money and different items. You can build items from scratch, providing you have a blueprint and the necessary components. Driving or racing also plays a major role in Rage's gameplay. You can buy or upgrade your cars, thus making them more suitable for certain missions or races. 8/10

Overall
Rage is a great shooter (Id Software has a knack for delivering those indeed) . If you are fan of great and inspiring stories, skip it. Nevertheless, with outstanding technical specs and decent gameplay Rage is a great way to satisfy your post-apocalyptic hunger. 7/10
