RAGE lacks content and depth that would otherwise make it excellent instead of just OK.

User Rating: 6.5 | RAGE HD IOS
The Good: Looks amazing, intense and challenging action

The Bad: Very little content, almost no depth, only three weapons, no multiplayer, no upgrade system

Rail shooters aren't very common on the App Store but most of them are good. Rage is good action wise but it lacks depth and content to keep you playing and making the game feels fresh. You get about 5 levels and that's it. No upgrades, only three weapons, and cash you can collect that's completely useless. Rage HD is really just a tech demo for the new iPhone 4 technology but for your money you get a decent little shooter.

Using the console version's content you get to shoot mutants until your thumbs bleed. Rage is intense with no breathers. You can shoot bullseyes for extra points and pick up ammo along the way. You get an assault rifle, shotgun, and pistol through the whole game but you can at least use a little strategy to this. The graphics look stunning but you will quickly forget once the action gets too heavy. This game is so brutal that I had to set it on easy mode just to beat the game. Enemies can absorb a lot of ammo and its scarce.

The enemy type only varies in two ways: Melee and projectile. Some will rush you others will throw stones at you that you can shoot in mid air. This grows tiresome after the second level and there really isn't any variety at all. There is no multiplayer which is a shame, but you do get a useless museum mode that allows you to wander around without any enemies. I guess this is just to look at how good the game looks. Rage HD is great for showing off your new iPhone 4 to yours friends, but you'll be done with this in less than an hour.
