First online multiplayer available game and it's fun even if you don't have internet.

User Rating: 9.5 | Quake PC
Graphics: like just about every other old(ish) game that's popular the graphics are bad in comparison to today's standards. Although this was one of the first games to use an engine that uses full CGI models instead of digitized actors or frame customized sprites.

Sound: the music is very atmospheric and creepy. This keeps in tone with the fact that this game is supposed to be edgy and dark.

Gameplay: the controls and the way you play the game seem very similar to the build engine games (duke nukem 3D, shadow warrior, blood, redneck rampage, and extreme paintball… actually not extreme paintball). So yeah you can jump, duck, look up and down unlike the beginnings of the FPS genre (doom and wolfenstein).

History: wolfenstein got the FPS genre running while DOOM solidified it as a viable genre to stick with. After that, games kept making advancements such as marathon gave story, Duke 3D gave better graphics and character (well to duke… sorta), and dark forces gave actual missions. Then came quake which gave even better graphics, better control, more story (although not as much as dark forces), and much much more.

Final feelings: a great game although because of its dated controls people who can't adapt to new controls won't like it, Because of its old gameplay system people who don't like older games won't like it, and because of its old coding (OS – dos) people who don't want to go through trouble to get a game running won't get it running and get see if they like it or not.
