the Quake you love in a kid-friendly online community

Back in the early 2000's, Quake 3: arena was a regular for me. i played online or with bots nonstop. for those who don't know, Quake 3 is an unreal tournament-like shooter that took place within the world of Quake. Quake three not only references the quake universe, but a nod to id's earlier (and possibly most successful) game, DOOM, is present in the way of a playable character. As the years moved on, Quake 3 slowly lost an online community. Now, in 2009, Quake live marks the triumphant return of Quake 3. Quake live offers the original Quake 3 as well as the expansion; Team Arena, and to top it all off, new content specific for Quake live. the cherry on top? it's all free.
there is no single player campaign, but you can play against bots if you prefer to be alone. because it runs off of a website, the graphics are a bit primitive but the models animate nice and the weapons look good and feel powerful, experienced players will find the shot gun and plasma gun reliable but newcomers may find these weapons (though powerful) a bit useless. another thing i didn't care for is that the gore has been removed completely, though this may be a good thing for younger children whose parents wouldn't let them play Quake 3: Arena. All in all, id software creates a faithful online version of the classic arena shooter if you are on Quake Live, look me up, my id is DOOMxombie
