Become an action movie hero!

Navarro's GameSpot review of this game is pretty much right on point. This is the videogame equivalent of an over-the-top, big budget action movie, complete with lots of stunts, acrobatics, and explosions, and a paper-thin plot to tie it all together.

The game is not difficult to learn, but you'll find yourself battling in cars, boats, helicopters, and even on foot. All the while you'll be shooting criminals and leaping between speeding vehicles without batting an eyelash.

The presentation of the game is excellent with good graphics and sound. The cutscenes, where present, really do help to move the "story" forward and keep you engaged in the action. They're typically only a few seconds long, but they help you quickly transition from one mission to the next. In addition, there's lots of ambient activity in Capital City as well. You share the road with civilians, tall buildings loom overhead, and planes fly through the sky-they're subtle touches that make the city feel more alive.

The gameplay is a blast too. Driving fast and jumping between vehicles is a thrill. And the cinematic slowdown that happens when you're leaping between vehicles, twisting your body to fire off a few shots before you land is absolutely amazing.

My biggest criticism is that some of the levels are punishing and require you to play them over and over. The driving isn't made any easier by the squirrelly joystick on the PSP, but that's a complaint I have with all PSP driving games and certainly no fault of Pursuit Force. There is some stutter in the frame rate when lots of enemies and explosions fill the screen, but this instances usually only last a few seconds.

I haven't gotten far enough to feel like the game has gotten repetitive, so with only 20 percent complete, I can't comment on that. But I certainly expect to get much deeper into this game.

Ultimately, Pursuit Force is a great example of why I bought a PSP. It's a fantastic, fast-paced action game that rivals what's available on home consoles. It can be played in short bursts while you're in line at the post office or during longer sessions at home. And it looks and sounds great. It's a level of gaming that you simply can't get on a PDA, cellular phone, or any other device this side of a game console.

If you own a PSP and you like action games, Pursuit Force is definitely worth a look.
