Fun crossover game with interesting combat, but isn't perfect.

User Rating: 9 | Project X Zone 3DS
I have been following Project X-Zone for quite some time and when I heard that release was so close by, I had to buy it. This game is close to the game known as Namco X Capcom which was never released in the US which was on the PS2 many years ago. I got the game off of Amazon for $50 which did seem a little overpriced for a 3DS game, but I was looking forward to playing this game.

Story 8/10
The story isn't amazing, but it keeps you entertained while you play it. Pretty much all the needs to be known is that all of the worlds heroes and villains are crossing over and they must fight to protect their worlds from domination and destruction. There is no main character really, but there are your main fighter pairs which consist of two heroes/villains and then a support character which I will explain in the gameplay section. Overall, the game's story is ok, but the combat and gameplay take the top scores for this review.

Characters 10/10
The characters are all crossovers from many of the Namco/Capcom game series such as Megaman X, Zero, Jill, Chris, Ryu, Ken, and characters that are famous or even infamous in these series. Each character has the personality you expect from them such as Dante acting cool, while Morgan flirts and acts like a succubus you expect her to be. I disagree with the review from Gamespot with the characters having tired attitudes. I think the characters were just fine with their crossover interactions. The dialogue between characters is also very entertaining, you can expect Arthur to appear on screen with no armor wearing his heart boxers after combat or Frank West taking pictures of all of the women from the game. The only unfortunate thing about this game is that there is no English voice acting, everything is in Japanese with English subtitles. It doesn't particularly bother me, but it would be nice if an English patch would be released to understand the characters at times.

Gameplay 10/10
I thought the gameplay was rather addictive and I had a lot of fun with the combat, combos, and character ultimate/crossover attacks. The game acts like a turn based strategy game such as Fire Emblem, Diseaga, or X-com where each character takes a turn to move and begin combat. When combat begins, the character fights with a teammate. You can begin making attacks by initiating the commands for each combo. Knowing when to use certain combos is up to you. While fighting, you gain EXP and experience points. EXP is for special attacks which is built during combat or gained through items. Your special attacks are powerful combos which should be used at the end of battle for lots of damage or bonus experience. Then there are AoE special attacks which is used like normal special attacks, but can only be used when you are moving your character during strategy mode, this attack will be used to clear out multiple enemies at once. During combat if you are near your allies, you can call in support for extra hits and damage which is known as X attacks. You also can equip support characters to your parties and call them in as well. If you use both right, you can clear out any enemy easily. Enemies also take turns and when they attack you, you can counter, defend, full defend, or pass. Each option except for pass will cost EXP to use and must be used wisely. The game has victory requirements and defeat requirements such as defeating a boss, reaching a certain point, or failing to reach an ally.

Graphics and Sound 9/10
I am not a graphics fanatic and I find that I can say that graphics don't make a good game. Project X-zone's graphics are just fine the way they are. The sound isn't amazing and like said, the characters voices are Japanese. I can look over this for the fact that the gameplay is just simply fun.

Replayability 8.5/10
You can in fact play this game again and again with the new game + where items transfer and your data also transfers, but the game also becomes a little bit more difficult as well. There is replayability here and it will keep you entertained as long as your willing to play.

Project X-Zone is a fun cross over game, looking past some of the flaws you will see a game that is worth looking into and a good one at that. It is imperfect, but I view no game to be perfect and each unique character/feature adds to the game's charm. If you are looking for a game like this, then this game is for you, but if you aren't into games like this then steer clear. A 9/10.
