I like that Blizzard does this.

Toxic behavior isn't only for MOBA's either. I'm a Hearthstone player, where you normally cannot chat with your opponent, instead only able to express one of the 6 emotes the heroes have. Wanna chat with someone after a game? Gotta go to your "last played" and send a friend request. Experienced players basically don't accept friend requests from recent opponents, because most of the time you'll receive hate messages and then be un-friended, which makes it difficult to report someone. But, you know, sometimes Hearthstone players like myself are streaming and have a replay of that toxic behavior to show Blizzard.

Obviously I couldn't be told what actions were taken on the other person's account, but I did get a pretty swift reply. And I do know Blizzard does actually punish players for such things.

@NoahRoalson: You should consider the value of PR. If this were the same news article except Microsoft DIDN'T refund the money, there would be a huge backlash and complaints about their greed. But because they did do it, they look good. The dad and son may have done foolish things, but it's not Microsoft's job to teach them a lesson, and the company would much rather have a positive image. That's worth far more than $8k to them! In fact, that's quite the bargian for good publicity!

I don't think this is about feminism at all. Female characters in such games do just fine being all sexy and revealing and such.

It's a question of proportion though. How much is too much? Think about this- Among male playable characters, how many are wearing very little? Zangief and Dhalsim, sure. A few others as well. But it's only a handful out of a large number of characters. However, when it comes to female characters, it's more like 2 out of 3 of them are showing cleavage and/or wearing a thong. When you get characters like C. Viper and Makoto who are completely dressed, they're more like the exception.

I find it reasonable to try and lower that ratio a bit. Why do most new female fighting game characters have to be sexy?
