@Bryjoered07:
Nope, not a Halo fanboy. In fact, Reach and the remake of 2 are the only ones I enjoyed.

The disconnect is due to many of you responders not understanding my comment. I'll nutshell it.

I never said Halo deserved more than an 8, I stated that the inconsistencies in scoring and the bonus points given to RPGs are unacceptable. Both the Witcher and MGS have serious technical flaws. These flaws were not reflected in the final score. That is the problem, not Halo's score in a vacuum.

Addendum:
1) The Witcher's issues were similar to AC: Unity's. Serious graphical errors, broken saves, etc. (There were others, I can't remember them ATM.) Yet it receives a 10/10.
2) MGS 5's story, according to fans of the series, is a serious downgrade from previous titles. This precisely matches the problem that Halo 5's reviewer has with the campaign's story. In addition to this, its multiplayer was non-existent at launch. When it launched, reports claimed it was a broken mess. Also, while Halo 5 received a pass as well, MGS 5 did not lose points for microtransactions. All of these issues, and the game STILL receives a 10/10.

Call a 10/10 "essential" if you wish, but, essential they are not. At least not until they are fixed, if ever.

Hmmm...that sounds fun. I'm surprised I've forgotten it completely, yet I remember so much of Knights of the Old Republic. It must be my age. :D

@sbkline:
Still, for objective quality issues, such as save losses, all games should lose points regardless of genre.

In general, I do agree with score comparisons being most valid within a single genre.

Yes. So much yes. I read a user review on GameFaqs recently that used this method. It had been so long since I saw it on a website that I completely forgot reviews used to be done that way. It's much better.

@RSM-HQ:
Ah, I forget about this disconnect sometimes as to why it matters to me seemingly more than it should. I'll shorten the story.

One afternoon at Target, I was browsing the electronics section when I noticed a 40-ish inch screen playing various reviews. I watched Gamespot's video review of Splatoon. Before then, I thought little of the true marketing importance of reviews, however, that moment changed their importance for me. A biased or poor review can directly affect sales due to reviews playing in the gaming section. If not for this "aha" moment, I'd still not really care.

Fast forward to today, and it still wouldn't matter, except that low scores affect sales which, in turn, can reduce the chance for a sequel. While it doesn't affect Halo much, Sunset Overdrive may not get a sequel due to it's relatively low sales. If S.O. had received an "unfair" score of, say, 6/10, it would have died a quick and early death if the review is showing in the gaming section while people are choosing between games. Especially with respect to uninformed gift buyers.

tl;dr: Reviews are played in gaming sections of retail stores, which can directly change sales numbers, which can eliminate or alter sequels.

LOL. I guarantee Candy Crush is better than Uncharted. Just ask your mom.
