What's what you would do?

BluRayHiDef

He is saying he would just get another 5870 instead of selling yours and buying two 6870's. Not all games come out supporting Crossfire/SLI and you will have better performance with the 5870.

This is off topic, but how much do you think the HD 6990 will be when it arrives?

$599

Actually it may be more.

[QUOTE="abuabed"]so GTX 570 is the best deal?abuabed

I think so. The 6950 is nice too, if your upward price limit is $300.

I don't have a limit :P I was just wondering which side won this round.

Well, the dual gpu battle is coming in about 1 month. dual fermi vs dual cayman

Yes, you can even crossfire a hd5870 with a hd5830. They will both work at the speeds of the slowest card.

Not that I plan on doing this, but would it be worth it to upgrade to an HD 6970 from and HD 5870?

BluRayHiDef
Only if you get most of your money back from the hd5870 by selling it.

The 6970 is as fast as the 570 not sure if the new drivers help out but at that price it is a no brainer.

xsubtownerx

There's no benchmarks to prove this at the moment.

Radeon HD 6970 to cost 275 euro

Excellent price, 6950 for €225

We just got an update of Radeon HD 6900 series pricing. The Radeon HD 6970 will sell in Europe as of 5 AM Wednesday for €275, while Radeon HD 6950 will sell for just €225 euro.

The UK suggested retail price is £225 inc VAT for Radeon HD 6950 and £279 inc VAT for Radeon HD 6970. UK chaps will get the cards at 6.00 AM due the time zone differences. California and the rest of Pacific time zone will get the card on December 14th at 9.00 PM, while east coast New York gets it December 15th at 00.00 AM.

This is a surprising move as the prices are much lower than anyone had expected. For comparison, the Geforce GTX 570 sells for at least 340 euro, while the cheapest Geforce GTX 580 on the EU market sells for 480 euro, and in most cases for well over €500.

We heard that €360 for 6970 and €320 for 6950 was the plan before, but obviously it got canned. One can only hope that AMD can make money with such low prices, but as end users we should simply be thrilled for getting great graphics cards at such low prices.

The prices are excellent and even if the cards ends up somewhat slower than the GTX 580 and GTX 570, they will definitely be very attractive due to competitive pricing.

Kudos to AMD for the price, the fight is on.

Even so, at 4.0GHz, the 1095PT should be fast enough to eliminate any relevant/ effective differences. Here is an analogy. Two men attempt to lift a 100 pound dumbbell. One can do it, the other can't. So, the one that can't do it takes steroids. After taking the steroids, he's strong enough to lift the 100 pound dumbbell even though he's STILL not as strong as the other guy. So, he's EFFECTIVELY as good as the other guy for that particular task, even though he's not as good as the other guy overall. Hence, at 4.0GHz, the 1095PT should be EFFECTIVELY as good as an i7-920 when it comes to NOT bottlenecking the card. Get my point, now?

BluRayHiDef

I understand your point, but there is also one more fact to consider, it depends on where the game gets more benefits on a dual core, quad core or can use more efficiently the multithreading of a 4 or even 6 cored cpu.

See this, an Phenom II X4 @ 3.8ghz doesnt even get close to a i7 920 @ 3.7ghz

As i said it really depends on the game.

Theoretically, shouldn't the CPU not matter so as long as it's not bottlenecking the card? The 1095PT that was used in that benchmark was running at 4.0GHz. That's more than enough to eliminate any bottlenecks. So, the results should still be comparable to my setup, shouldn't they?

BluRayHiDef

No, your cpu is much better at the same clockspeeds comparing it to a phenom ii x4.

I've been taking everything related to the 6900 series with a grain of salt lately. Only real reviews will tell the truth about the 6970's performance, so there's no point in looking at these so called 'leaks.'

Just wait it out until next week, and we'll see who wins the flagship battle between AMD and Nvidia this year.
