having been raised in 'the south' all my life and I can tell you the thought process is basically that they dont believe it. They are literally unconscious of the fact that they cherry pick the news they want to believe to suit their own belief system. its impossible to fix (or at least I have never been able to)

Talking about nomenclature and labels in a conversation that is basically about the affects of slavery is ignoring the main point
