@AlexKidd5000: Thanks. Yes the default kernel in Ubuntu 18.10 has the appropriate AMD open source drivers in it, no effort on user part needed.

@AlexKidd5000: I noticed your Ryzen 7 setup with a discrete GPU. Does it have an integrated GPU as well? I am running Ryzen 5 + Vega 8 and am rather impressed by it. Cheap Dell laptop (Inspiron 5575) but the CPU/APU shines. Before buying it I tried a few laptops with discrete GPU, they were heavy and had noisy fans. This feels like a balanced system (on budget). Ubuntu 18.10 installed flawlessly (previous versions did not work well). As for gaming, I don't do much except my own web-based "game".
