Oohh can't wait for all this stuff, I've been patiently waiting for the Omni Treadmill and Oculus Rift to finish development for years now! This certainly looks like a better alternative to the Omni and I'll definitely consider it when it comes out :)

Thanks for all the replies guys, I've not been on my computer for the last couple of weeks so sorry for the late reply. I've logged on this evening and it's happened again a few minutes ago as I was browsing Facebook and listening to Muse on Youtube :l

@Coseniath: I ran a lot of the stress tests myself but it was briefly booked into a PC repair shop and they ran a memtest and said it was fine. They got halfway through the hdds before I had to leave town again so I couldn't get a full diagnostic.

@neatfeatguy: I actually moved across the country! The problem started when I was at Cosford then I moved to Lossiemouth and still getting the same problem. I wonder if it's just the dodgy power outlets the RAF put in their accommodation blocks - I remember it being fine when I first built it and had it running at home over Easter break. It seems odd that both blocks at opposite ends of the country would have the same problem but it certainly seems a good theory. I might see if I can get hold of a UPS.

@Maddie_Larkin said:

Well, I would like to know more about the PSU, I had a problem that seems somewhat similar, it was the modular PSU which had a hissy fit. It does sound like my PSU problem alot. But needing to know more about it.

Especially with the things others have tried to guess (and it seems not to have been).

If it is a modular PSU it might simply be that a connector is lose, or they are spread out too much (the issue I had, I learned something new that day :x )

It is good thinking, I had a modular PSU fitted before and it was the first thing I replaced but the new one is a non-modular 600w and it seemed unlikely that both were faulty. I think the new one is a Storm 600w PSU :)

Did you also get random reboots? And did it resolve after you replaced the PSU?

Thanks for the replies guys but the microsoft thread just says have you turned the pc off by the power button which isn't the case. It's been a few days since I disabled one of the audio drivers and seemed to be running ok, but it's just flicked off again as I was scrolling through Facebook, yet I watched a film earlier no problems. Has anyone come across this problem before? It's driving me mad lol!

Thanks for the info guys, I've given it a go but won't know it's worked until it happens or doesn't happen again! :)

@horgen: Yeah I briefly looked at that and I had both realtek and nvidia drivers, I disabled one (can't remember which) and it didn't make a difference but I've since updated drivers etc and they're both on there again. Which one shall I keep? I think the realtek ones are for my speakers and the nvidia is coming from the gpu. Yeah it has been a while! Nice to see an old face on here :)

I've double checked all cables with the motherboard manual. The motherboard has recently been replaced too (as the old one was cheap and I wondered if maybe it wasn't up to supporting such a beefy processor so the new one has been chosen carefully). It seems to be a common problem given the amount of forum posts online about it but no-one has ever posted a proper solution :l Just wondered if this had happened to anyone here and what they did to solve it as it's been ongoing for almost a year now and has been driving me crackers lol!!

So I built my second PC just over a year ago (first one still works great it's just I move around a lot and it's too big to move easily) and within a couple of months it developed a fault where it will randomly reboot. It happens most often when I play video games or watch catch up tv and it's completely sporadic - sometimes it will happen several times in an hour, sometimes once a day etc. The screen goes black for a second then the POST comes on and the PC loads as normal. Windows gives me this error message:

Log Name: System

Source: Kernel-Power

Event ID: 41

Level: Critical

The PC is a micro atx build (as size was the key building point). So far I have tested all the components with memtest, gpu burner etc and each component has passed. I have monitored temps and nothing out the ordinary (although PC fans go mental when playing games). I have upgraded the PSU from 500w to 600w and recently replaced the motherboard to a more reputable Gigabyte motherboard. I have also moved several times and the problems persists which suggests it is not a fault with the wall power.

Software wise I installed Linux Mint and the problem persisted which indicates it is not a Windows fault. There are plenty of forum posts online about this kind of fault and I have followed as many solutions as I can, changing the Windows power management settings etc and updating drivers.

Has anyone come across this problem before and can shed some light on this? Any help is greatly appreciated :)

This is the dxdiag for the PC:

Jurassic World - really enjoyed it although there were some cheesy bits. When the t-rex and raptor "had a moment" I could hear my bf next to me go "Oh god" haha

"oh god" its tofu and after ages on OT =P

I can't believe I'm still seeing familiar faces here! How's it going? :D

All going good Tofu. How's your life going ? :)

Good to hear :) Things are well thanks, life plodding along as usual :D They've changed the interface of this site a bit since I last logged on!
