MistryMan: The only thing lefton myslate for GoW1 is damage value type testing.

It's a shame there's no AotF or BP to test 'everything' against 'everything'.

Quite right..it won't be easy..if at all possible to get down to a science as was done for GoWII

I thought I'd better say something speedrun-related after all my posts about NURs, heh heh...

LOL

MistryMan, I don't know if shenminiu did this on his speedrun, and I'm sure you probably already know this, but after you get Icarus Wings, whenever there's a section where you have to hug a wall and slowly move across, it's much faster to double jump away from the wall and glide to the end of the wall. For example, when you are travelling towards the save point before the Siren sacrifice, this technique really comes in handy. I only mention this because Shinobier didn't do it in his speedy NUR, and I wondered if anyone had thought of it.

He did but it was perfectly executed. It was a trick I found for myself which I had been suggesting to others. Looks like I wasn't the only player who thought to make use of it. I prefer gliding along the wall until I can shimmy past the next barrier.

Yeah I saw shenminiu do that on his run after garden of the gods. If you know of any other parts it could be used, do share.

In the run I am at just after Euryale *though I ventured without saving all the way to Atlas just to get a feel of things to come*.

Where I once would use a 'Long Jump' before TM2, I instead used a double jumping, square spamming SoD leap *I haven't thought up a name for this yet so "SoD leap" will be the stand-in*.

Though I haven't yet perfected/mastered it..I do have a method for handling TM2 with very little spamming of PS as that could actually take longer/be less effective. So collision abuse (just 4 plus a PS or two will bring it to "O") is key. Be it by OH/alt. OH, knockbacks or air grabs using the Harpies.

After using the fleece to clear away that fireball door I tried using 'SoD leaps" as a single one wouldn't cut it. In one attempt I had full success where I got to the halfway point, landed oddly on the ledge and jumped along the wall twice more *SoD Leaps*. In another I used the known way of a double jump half way, went along the wall for about 3-4 scoots before jumping w/ square attacks at the same time which limited how far it threw me back and let me fully cross without incident. I feel this needs more work but I may not be well suited for this task.

I had fun with the Wraiths, but found that it was a bit irritating to beat the Satyr Champions using only collisions.

I ran into the grapple point skip again and had luck going faster through the 3 grapple points but could get down how to make an immediate leap to the highest one..though the way I use is quite close thanks to the jump/grapple cancels.

Perseus became a chore as I let myself skip in carefree at 1/10 health. It worked out nicely as it forced me to get used to how he attacks when invisible and better handle all the stages with the Spear *overall too*. I even used the Bow for his invisible stage...it was for the finishing blows as I needed to react fast to his "O". It can be troublsome to PS him into a corner for Stage 2 if you aren't in the right place from the start. I still need to improve a little with the Stage 3 handling but luckily the final round needs no consideration.

The Pre-Icarus fights weren't all that different from what I expected. Typical handling of the Sirens to have only one on its last leg around when the 2 Hades Minotaurs spawn..then get at least one collision in before "O" *Siren*. That way I can eliminate one or both quickly with PS then its grab. The other I can mess with. For the 1st Satyr I just petrify/crush it. The next I use for collisions to quickly/easily kill the Hades Juggernauts. Afterwards I play with the Satyr in typical fashion.

I stopped after killing Icarus as I had played ahead plenty enough. Now I need to go back and destroy each part before recording them and adding to the FAQ.

As for the PoP games, I've played a little bit of SoT and WW, but never finished them. I've never played Two Thrones though. I have played the original PoP though, back in day on my 486 (lol). I loved the original PoP, and I finished it on a number of occasions. Great platforming and movement puzzles in that game.

I've played and beaten all three of the newer series.

As someone who's played all three then, what is your opinion of WW? I think it's probably my favourite of the 3 and the one I played through the most. Best combat system of the 3, brilliant storyline, great puzzling/platforming, the dark theme didn't bother me in the slightest. Felt like a natural progression of his character considering the backstory.

I thought WW was quite good actually. At first I was pissed when playing (sharing gameplay with my cousin)..we got lost and couldn't figure out what to do. Then when I got to play on my own *new game* I had no problems. The Dahaka was an awesome creature that provided some great chases and a decent fight. The story was fun to follow. I enjoyed the brutal kills though things could have been better..the Third had its platforming perfected IMO.

GMG, yesterday I finally managed to beat the 9 Wraiths under NUR conditions. I used nothing but the Hammer's triangle attacks and Argo's Revenge. No magic and no RotT, of course. I had a full third of my life remaining when I beat them, which I was happy about. It's funny, because the times when I've beaten the Wraiths using a level 3 Hammer my health was flashing red every time, and yet I was able to preserve a third of my health when using the level 1 Hammer. I also didn't use any bow-tricking/cancelling or EH-tricking/cancelling, because I wanted to be really restrictive. I feel really pumped after beating them, so now I'm going to try out the other challenges that you've created, and I'll update you on my progress over on the Create a CotT thread.

Good to hear. The only weapon I have yet to beat the 9 Wraiths with at lvl1 is the BoO..I'll get to it in time. My original best was with the lvl3SoD (9/10th remaining) until I got a good run with the lvl3 Hammer resulting in no loss of health. Though on average I lose 1/2of my health. Cancels/Tricks don't help much in this fight.

I look foward to hearing of your progress with the CotF

Yeah, infinite magic is hax for NUR. What's the fun (or challenge) in sitting back and whoring magic all day? Probably only special speedruns should allow things of that sort.booyakasha128

I assumed as much. I've gotten back into the process of updating my SoD Run and will continue updates here *later getting to chaning the topic name..I wasted the night away fixing the internet and have to wake early so...*

Hey GMG I plan on doing a music video of Kratos' life using Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction. Think you can provide a link for the cutscenes?

GoW1 and GoWII I assume. I actually haven't done any search for GoWII cutscenes yet. I know where you can obtain GoW1 cutscenes inLow to Insance (Very High) Quality though..you would have to go through the vids *flash* to check for the proper ones you would be using for said videos.

Try this. *for GoW1*

I'll look around for GoWII cutscenes but it will likely have to wait until a GoWII Speedrun is captured in HIGH Quality and sent to this site. I don't believe StuckGamer vids can be downloaded..not sure.

Thanks.

Also, TRIPEL AGREED

LOL

Aside from God of War, I got pretty good with FPS before, especially cs:source when I used to play gungame all damn day.

I too have quite a history with FPS games. I mentioned Red Faction 2, but I've also been keen on the Halo games, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, and the Star Wars Battlefront games. The action adventure genre has only really taken hold of me in recent years, but boy have I been possessed, lol. I think I just needed the right game (i.e. GoW) to come along and make me realise how good the genre is.

I have a history of cheating in FPS titles because I have no interest in becoming truely good at them by and large. I do what will net me the most enjoyment with the tile. So if it were just a multiplayer title..I'd d*ck around to annoy others. I'm more serious in action/adventure. I suppose I could try playing fair with a game like Resistance or Gears should the chance to play either come up for a good deal of time.

In terms of mastering games like GoW, I usually played games like Prince of Persia, MGS, SotC, Okami for the entire experience rather than mastering the gameplay right down to the last detail. But the combat in GoW is just that much better to me, and also finding like minded peers here at gamespot/gamefaqs encourages me to see how far we can take the gameplay in GoW.

The GoW community is definitely a big factor in my dedication to mastering the GoW games. Without people like you and GMG pushing the limits of the games, doing NURs, speedruns, weapon-specific runs, etc., it would be hard to know just how far it is possible to take the games. And of course the great combat and gameplay of GoW must receive full credit for giving us all a reason to stay involved.

I wasn't initially impressed by TUGOWU *first version*..I didn't see any really impressive players around and non-GoW related talk was higher then I'd have liked it to be. I eventaully saw ballofsnow's run which was a heavy influence in GoW1. Not long afterward, TUGOWU was reborn and I had a chance to change its mold to my liking..it was a huge improvement over the first to me. For GoWII it was a bit of a competition in the form of Shinobier that drove me foward until all these high level players seemed to appear from nowhere.

At two different points I had serious returns made to GoW1. I have another on slate but I just haven't been getting anywhere lately. I just want some decent tracks to my vids..that fit..

~I need to start playing GoW again, but I don't really have a lot of time for it with all my homework, music, and other stuff I do. When I get to play anything it's usually when other people are around, so I go for Halo 3 or Bioshock. --Any suggestions? InfernoPirate

I don't let others join me unless we plan on playing the same game. Even then..I do not play co-op or multiplayer. God of War offers neither. Not even online. They can either play the game and learn from me or do something else,,because if I am going to be playinga PS2 title..it'll be GoWII.

If they aren't close friends, let them watch. If they are, try to get them to play *so you can at least have GoW action*. If they aren't even friends, toss them out for thinking they have a say in the matter.

~That is all I can offer really

[QUOTE="satvara"]I'd deem any NUR done using my infinite magic technique as an underachievement, regardless of difficulty level. kevbew63

It is incredibly easy with infinite magic. I'm not trying to claim it's an accomplishment or anyting, just curious if its been discussed.

Of all the exploits..that is the only one that I'd consider a bit too much for fairness' sake. As for Speedruns..EVERYTHING goes so long as it isn't a 'cheat' of some sort (really shouldn't need much discussing)

~What say the rest of you? It seems like it robs the NUR/NUR+ types of their value to me

I know it well..it is a feeling that only my favorite games evoke from me.

MrEmpirical

Speaking of favorite games, have you ever mastered a game to the same extent as the GoW games? Personally, the God of War games have possessed me more than any others, with the possible exception of Red Faction 2 (I was obsessed with that game a few years back, especially four-player splitscreen). But the God of War games are all I really care to play these days, at least in a serious way. In fact, I can say without exaggeration that when I first played the original God of War, I thought "Damn, this is why I play videogames! This is what a videogame is supposed to be."

To the "same extent". Not even close. I played other games just as obsessively *or almost as much so* but I hadn't actually "mastered" them pre-tell. I just played them alot. I got pretty good with these games as a product of all that time.

I never got very good at Armored Core, I became fairly good at Smackdown!/WWF No mercy, I became a veteran level player for Budokai..master if you only factor "VS computer" and combo making...I was always casual level in Tekken really..I only cheated in GTA games *unless Elliott insisted we didn't* so I really didn't develope pro skills..I just got good at a few things which the help of having everything right away..allowing me better access to potential glitches/exploits..like using a flying tank to cross islands before I was suppossed to.

God of War was the first game I had reach this level for.

Hey GMG,

I thought of another cool thing that occurred during my BoO-only run, which I thought I'd mention:

O RLY?

During the battle with the Cerberus Breeders, I got down to when I just fighting the two Juggernauts, and a very cool thing happened. I lined up both of the Juggernauts (so I could get two for one value with my DR), and then they both started to attack me at the same time. The funny thing was, they both did exactly the same attacks at exactly the same times. Even though one of them was further away from me than the other. It was awesome, because I was able to block, DR, block, DR, etc. and blast both of them at the same time over and over again. I never had to think "Should I attack this Juggernaut, and risk getting hit by the other one in the process?", I just got into the groove of blocking and countering with DR.

Very interesting..would be nice to keep them in sync in other cases.

That's what I love about devoting so much time to GoW and GoW2. Every time I do another play-through, I discover something new and different, or I learn another of the game's nuances. It's almost like getting to know a real-life person: you can know them for years, but there'll always be more things to discover about them. I'm sure you are very familiar with this feeling, given all of the time you have devoted to mastering and cracking-open the GoW games.

I know it well..it is a feeling that only my favorite games evoke from me.

Good afternoon to all.

I have managed to get my speedrun vids up and running on the Tube. If you want to see it here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go6yWdK72Nk

Click on my profile to progress to the other parts. I just got done with Theseus so the rest of the game still needs recording.

Until then...

Any strategies or improvement is really appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm making my way to your vid(s). Will comment as per usual.
