@xanthan1 @tafusoy @lonesamurai1 I believe the one deluding himself is more like the one trying to explain it away in those terms. The reduction of PC games in the market place predates many of the current trends and you have to take that into account.

@danten81 @tafusoy Perhaps it was a regional market thing because I always saw a slew of console games in these stores unless it was a software specific store.

@danten81 @tafusoy I disagree.. I don't ever recall a time when the console shelf was miniscule besides maybe in a purely PC game store. Because back then you could have a store dedicated to software and even gaming software without any console merchandise at all. They were almost mutually exclusive. It wasn't until the mid 2000's that I noticed console shelves shrinking.

@lonesamurai1 It's symbolic of the demise of PC gaming.

@danten81 In the late 90's, a store like gamestop(before they bought up the competition) would have had several large shelves dedicated to PC games and there was far more variety. Now there's maybe a couple top selling MMOs and a few single player titles in a very small shelf--sometimes a half shelf. Granted, PC gaming hardware is still being produced, MMOs have immense replay value and there is much more in terms of downloadable games that don't require a trip to the store.. but it's been this way for a while now, since before some of the current trends.. and one has to wonder.

@lonesamurai1 What do you think controls what platforms games are developed for?

@lucivar1 I've heard different takes on this.. but I tend to agree with you. I believe the android platform along with handheld computing is the future of gaming.

I was a very active console and PC gamer during the late 90's to early 2000's and consoles did *not* have an edge over PC graphics. The Playstation, Saturn and Nintendo 64 were all fairly impressive at the time but Pentium and Pentium II driven software rendering engines still produced higher resolutions and more detail(polygon count, etc.) About the only upside to consoles was the lighting and bilinear filtering, however, by '95 3D accelerators for the PC were starting to take shape and we saw all the console functionality included as well as the expected speed increase by at least '96(3dfx Voodoo). PC gamers have been saying since at least the early 90's that PCs have an edge in the hardware department and that never changed. Consoles have been very competitive as of late and are a sort of PC to themselves now but pixel for pixel the PC is still supreme.

@Deathsmiles76 When Tekken hit the arcades in the mid 90's I was pretty much done with domestic fighter games as well as 2d fighters in general. So no, I didn't skip over MK.. in fact I was in awe of it as a youngster because I'd never seen a video game so over the top. Plus, points for Big Trouble in Little China references.
