NFL Video Games

Alright, this is a hotly contested subject. Which NFL title is better, NFL 2k5 or Madden NFL 2005.

I don't pretend to have the final answer, and if it were that clear cut I would just point out how I rated the two games. But it's NOT that clear cut...

I have watched football most of my life, and I have taken the time and made the effort to really learn about the nuts and bolts of the game. I've studied how the salary cap works, how free-agency works, and the kinds of things teams do when evaluating talent., I'm very very into the entire NFL, not just the games themselves.

This being said, Madden does a far far _FAR_ more accurate job, based on the extent of the research I have done in replicating the entire NFL structure. Certainly there are some things it could take from NFL 2k5 that would make it better, and hopefully they'll notice some of the features and decide 'Hey, that's a good idea'.

On the flip side, NFL 2k5 is far and away the most impressive presentation I've ever seen in any game ever. That being said I can only conclude the following:

NFL 2k5 is designed for the casual fan, the fan whom loves the glitz and the glamour and doesn't want to delve TOO deeply into the machine that is an NFL franchise. While certainly it has some nuts and bolts, it's not quite the same.

Madden NFL 2005 is designed with the Hard Core fan, the guys who want to tweak all sorts of little things and have complete control over their domain.

These two observations being made, I will admit there is some crossover, features that NFL 2k5 has that I wish Madden had (Weekly Sportscenter style presentation, the ability to structure contracts to be front loaded or some other type, Weekly workout regimen) but ultimately, 2k5 is lacking especially on the field which while more spectacular doesn't feel near so accurate to the way football is actually played. Again, it seems like glitz and glamour rather than true NFL football.

Such is my opinion, I'm curious to hear what others have to say... but please, keep it intelligent, keep it clean, and keep it thoughtful. 'u suxx0rz' is not intelligent.
