My Favourite Games

Video Games are too vast a world to pick favourites from. But some do stand out above others for various reasons, be it gameplay, story, graphics, multiplayer, nostalgia etc. striking a chord with the player like no other game can. Here's a list of games that such a lasting struck a chord with me.

Doki Doki Literature Club!

This game is the only thing horror that I have tried and needless to say, it had a lasting impact. While clicking through series of dialogue may get tiring at some point, the story makes it worth it with loads of bizarre and horrific stuff happening as the game proceeds. The underlying message is beautifully and intelligently presented to the player. The game is excellently made with loads of secrets and hidden clues and it gets more interesting as one progresses.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

This game is a masterpiece. Every bit of this game delivers on every level. It rests 4th on the list only because there are too many memories attached to the above games.

FIFA 18

FIFA 18 is a step in the right direction for FIFA after a few years of disappointments. Gameplay is still slow like hell and suffers from input lag. But its overall polish and remarkable presentation on and off the pitch, along with great visuals, provide for an authentic football experience, especially in case of Europe's top leagues.

Need for Speed: Carbon

The sequel to my favourite game was a decent one too but could not even come close to it. The story is good but truly very short. Canyon duels are a great addition but Palmont city didn't really appeal to me and neither did the only-night setting but in terms of speed the game offers plenty.

Life is Strange

A great, heartfelt, emotional and thought-evoking game with an amazing story and cool graphics, Life is Strange is a game like o other in the sense that player choices have a huge bearing on how the game plays out.

FIFA 14

The last great FIFA was also my favourite. I have spent hours playing this and it never gets old. The gameplay feels great and is the closest one can get to experiencing the beautiful game on a digital platform.

LIMBO

A brilliant 2D indie platformer, Limbo is an open ended game with little details about the plot leaving the player to decide the story and explain its amazing ending. It is the game's open endedness and simplicity and thought evoking puzzles that appealed to me the most.

Pokemon FireRed / LeafGreen Version

This 3rd generation remake of the world's first Pokémon games is my favourite. It retains the charm and nostalgia of the first games with marked technological improvements paving the way for a colourful, nostalgic and fun filled journey to become the best trainer in Kanto.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)

One of the first games that I played and it holds good even to this day. Great story, great mechanics and gameplay, amazing game overall. It was for this gem that racing remains one of my favourite genres.

Tomb Raider

This reboot of the classic Lara Croft is easily one of the best in the franchise. It introduces a new Lara to the world, one who is relatable and vulnerable with a great story unlike one has seen before while also having loads of content (and tomb raiding) for long term fans and newcomers alike.

Call of Duty: World at War

A brutal, gory depiction of the lowest point in the history of man, World at War captures the horrors of the Second World War like no other shooter. The campaign delivers amply and sets up one of COD's iconic characters for future games in the series.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

CS:GO improves upon its amazing predecessors and delivers a solid multiplayer experience with an ever expanding player base and regular updates from developers. It’s bizarre shooting mechanics and movements make it the epitome of 'easy to play, hard to master' games and may not appeal to all FPS players at once but it is a good game nonetheless.

Mafia II

Mafia 2 is great game and what I liked most about it was the vintage feel it emanated from all aspects of gameplay, from the cars, the music as well as the detailed open world and an intricate story full of interesting characters add to its brilliance.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

The last good NFS in my opinion was also one of the best in the series. It gets everything, from the cars, gameplay and physics to the soundtrack, open world, police chases, spot on. One of the simplest yet beautifully immersive games I have played.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Being a sequel to a masterpiece, MW 2 does enough to at least come within touching distance of the heights of its predecessor. COD gives us a game that has its moments but falls short of greatness.

My first FPS and my favourite. A brilliant campaign coupled with great gunplay and graphics pretty good for its time make for a thrilling and immersive WW2 experience like no other.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault

MOHAA is a classic in the WW2 shooter genre. It has a long and challenging campaign involving both stealth as well as all out combat. Overall a great experience for those who marvel at historical plots.

Burnout Paradise

Burnout Paradise is a racing game like no other in the sense that it not only lets you feel the high speeds but also the risks that come with it, as the adrenaline rushes through your veins. A huge open world and loads of modes and races make sure you remain hooked for hours of crash filled fun.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Another great game from the COD series which, while not reaching the heights of MW, does deliver the goods well. A brilliantly crafted and interesting storyline coupled with some amazing missions make this a must-play.

Call of Duty

The original Call of Duty is also a truly great experience. It delivers some epic moments and has some amazing missions and introduces us to the big baddy of COD: Captain Price.
