1. Party chat 2. Add online multiplayer to virtual console games. (I would be willing to pay a lot of money to be able to play Mario Kart 64 online) 3. Release a signal extender for the Wii U controller (Being able to play games on the controller's screen would be a great feature if only the signal was strong enough to reach my bedroom) 4. Release an accessory that plugs into the Wii U that allows for 3DS games to be played on your TV with the Wii U controller.
I'll buy both eventually, but Xbox One will definitely be first and be my primary console because of the superior controller and Xbox Live. I'll buy a PS4 after it gets a price drop and has 2 or 3 great exclusives out for it.
I would love for Nintendo to go 3rd party. I love Nintendo games, but I hate their console's hardware and crappy online service. It would be great if Nintendo could leave the hardware and online service up to Microsoft and Sony; and Nintendo could focus on what they do best, making great games. Mario Kart and Smash Bros. on Xbox Live would be amazing.
People buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games, so if Nintendo stopped making home consoles, they would go to whichever console that Nintendo releases their franchises on. I would expect Microsoft to throw more money than Sony to try to secure some Nintendo exclusives for Xbox or even try to completely purchase Nintendo.
...and why? I'll buy multi-console games on Xbox One because of Xbox Live and the superior controller. My PS4 will only be used for the great games that are exclusive to it.
Right now, I'm leaning towards "no" because I will be buying all multi-platform games on Xbox to play on the superior Xbox Live online service. It would take at least two PS4 exclusive multi-player games for me to subscribe to PSN+, and as of right now, the future PS4 exclusive games that I will be interested in are single player experiences.
