Windows 8.1 is far superior to Windows 7. Almost anyone claiming otherwise is someone just following the Microsoft sucks fad. A more modern design, MUCH better performance, faster boot, Skydrive, better support for emerging technologies like SSDs and and UEFI/GPT.

Going with Windows 7 now would be like going with XP when 7 was coming on. Sure, you may prefer the older interface and ways of doing things, but you are inhibiting your future proofing and performance of your system, and once you finally make the upgrade (and you will) you will realize how stupid everything you thought you liked was.

As to Office 2013 vs. 2010, there is really no difference. Office 2013 integrates better with Skydrive, another big advantage of Windows 8. The only reason I upgraded because I get $10 Office upgrades since I work for my university's IT department so why not.

In the past years there has been a shift from most documents being printed to most documents being electronic. For viewing on a screen, you want a sans serif font. Times New Roman is a serif font, so that's why that was changed. As to why Calibri was the specific sans serif font chosen, as opposed to, say, Arial, it's because it was designed specifically for Microsoft and it's special font technology.

Is there a particular reason why you would want a sans serif for electronic viewing? (I'm more partial to sans serif myself as a general rule of thumb, but that's personally speaking)

For sure. The resolutions of screens can make the serifs difficult to discern. That's basically it.

Consider this. I am currently using a 1920x1080 24" screen. That equates to a max resolution of about 92 ppi (pixels per inch). The highest resolution you will find on computers will be about 220, which is the MBP retina screen. You will actually find that most computer-based images/fonts/etc. are designed for 72 ppi. Now, most printed things are a much higher resolution. For example, most household printers will print at 300 ppi. What this higher resolution equates to is a higher ability to display fine details well, such as serifs.

Obviously it is still fine to read serif fonts on screens. You probably still use them frequently. But it just isn't necessary and can look a bit ugly, especially when you consider anti-aliasing problems and the lower resolution. Might as well just remove them, right?

I'm in the same situation as you. Really liked this girl. We went out one night and ended up hooking up. I thought she really liked me, and I asked her out. Turns out she isn't looking for a relationship. I've been upset about this for the past week.

How do you get over it? You have to let it pass. I'm still upset about it. Hell, I'm pissed off at her because she played me pretty hard but I still can't stop thinking of her. Emotions like that aren't just something you can forget. I've talked about this with her openly and it didn't really help.

Go see your family, hang out with your friends for a bit, try to find another girl. That's what has helped me feel better.

Breaking Bad is a very, very, very good show. I'm not going to say it is the greatest show airing, though. I'd rank Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Boardwalk Empire together as joint number 1's. I enjoy them all in different ways, and I can't pick one over the others.

That's weird, at my school in every lab there's a desktop at every station. When I had a C++ class we just went into a computer lab.cain006
As I said, it depends on the school, and the class. Pure programming classes at my college are done in labs. Like C++, Java, etc. However the classes I took were done in basic lecture halls, so you had to have your own laptop.

Do you need one? It depends completely on your major, classes, and what school you go to. I'm about to start my second year and I've had two classes that requires a laptop already. One was an intro to engineering class, so every engineer had to take it. But you were allowed to borrow a laptop from the library for each class day, it was much easier to have your own laptop. The other was English 101, but I specifically took a BYOC section. I've had two other classes that highly recommended a laptop. The first was an intro to microarchitecture/assembly class, and laptops were recommended to write programs that were assigned in class and in lab. You could have written them out on paper, but that's a pain in the ass for you and the professor. The other class was my C class, where again, a laptop was recommended for programming assignments in class. Other than those, I have never needed a laptop. In fact, almost every other class I've taken have banned laptops. The only ones that haven't were the joke humanities classes like anthropology where people "take notes on their laptops", aka use Facebook instead of paying attention. You will also find yourself unable to take notes on a laptop in classes like calculus, physics, and any engineering class. It's just not feasible.

If you want a stable tablet without any work, get a Nexus 7 or 10. Whichever size fits you better. If you want a very good value tablet that you have to do some work for, get a Nook HD+. Then follow these instructions to wipe the stock OS and install CM 10.1. For about $175 you then get a stock Android, 9 inch, full HD tablet. You won't find a better deal/ Personally I did the second option and love it. The new Nexus 7 is a great value, but I didn't want a 7 inch tablet. I looked at the 10 but it's way overpriced.

1. You aren't an 8/10. I don't have to see a picture of you to figure this out. 2. You seem annoying. Too many smileys, too many exclamation marks, and you just seem weird. So girls probably make a conscious effort to avoid you :(!!!!! :(

It's amazing how one "meh" movie can really dampen people's enthusiasm towards seeing big ccharacters together on the big screen. Although perhaps you could argue it was to movies that made people go "meh" if you count DKR. Not to meniton the ending of Rises raises serious questions about how those two universes would collide. Would Bruce Wayne return? Would it be "not Robin" playing Batman? Also how the hell does the Bruce Wayne of Nolan's Gotham even keep up with Snyder's overpowered God of a character?

Chris_Williams
Man of Steel is in a different universe from Nolans Batman. This would be a completely new Batman.

actually not really, there is a easter egg with in man of steel. Wayne enterprises logo was spotted which is the exact same logo used in the Dark knight movies.

That's not the point. Batman and Superman do exist in the same universe, so it makes sense to have the Wayne Enterprises in it. But what he said was that Man of Steel is in a different universe from Nolan's Batman, which is 100% true. Nolan's Batman is grounded in reality. Man of Steel/Superman is the complete opposite of that. So if they are going to put the pair in a movie together, they need a new Batman, one that isn't as grounded in reality.
