It's the end of a console cycle. I didn't think (and I was right) we would see anything major including a new F-Zero. It's about time for the Switch to walk into the sunset.

@sonic_spark: Good job squentially misunderstanding my comment to go on a rant.

Their games suffer from weak hardware leading to poor performance. That is a documented fact.

Their hardware gimmicks don't make their accoladed games better. Their absence would not negatively affect the games.

This discussion isn't about PS5/Xbox but there is a justifiable reason for the Switch to be upgraded and it is because the hardware is 2 generations old and not because gamers are looking for the next gimmick. The Switch gimmick is a dockable handheld. That is some real game changing experience.😎

A rant? You mean challenging your position.

What is this documented fact? I know you're big on evidence, show me. Aside from Zelda, which games have been sub 60fps coming from Nintendo?

Don't mistaken my commentary as I would not more beefed up hardware, that is always a good thing. But don't make the generalization that Nintendo's games are somehow sub-par or poor performance. Especially in this climate where every frame is counted for, every effect analyzed.

I disagree with you on making games better. DS, 3DS (two screens alone), and some of the experiences on Wii would disagree with you (Metroid Prime 3, Wii Sports, etc.) And a dockable handheld that transitions that smoothly. Tell me, pre-steam deck, where that experience existed with a library like the Switch? The shield? Laughable.

The Switch should be upgraded, as in we should go into the next gen. I don't disagree with you there. But many of your points are just factually incorrect.

PS5 is rocking it actually, just hit the 40 million mark, getting the best third party support, just had ff16, and people are mega hyped for Spider-Man 2. But nice try!

Do sales come with a single player campaign?

@HalcyonScarlet: I love the tech discussion. Funny enough, I had an X800 in the only PC I ever built.

@davillain: It is my understanding that Nintendo is a publicly traded company and I don't see Nintendo with its shareholders simply abandoning all of their IPs simply because they can't make hardware. That notion is ludicrous.

Nintendo hardware is too gimmicky and their games suffer because of it. They don't even try to make somewhat performant systems. The Switch is rocking 360/PS3 ish capabilities. That is two generations ago. If they do go third party, it would be good for the industry (the same can be applied to the others). It is time for console gaming to walk away from the traditional consoles because it doesn't make much sense these days and the console market is not growing but has remained stagnant for decades.

Firstly, Nintendo's comment isn't to be taken literally. It was to demonstrate their resolve in staying in the market. It's not a concern regardless, they're incredibly cash positive.

But no, Pedro, their games don't suffer; Nintendo first party games remain highly acclaimed games. Out of all the games that are Nintendo first party, only Starfox Zero strikes me as a game that had a needless addition in the gamepad mechanic. Otherwise, Zelda is thriving, Mario, etc. Saying consoles are "too gimmicky" dismisses the fact that until the Wii, Nintendo had powerful hardware. The Wii U was a failure because the intended design seemed to be that of what the Switch ultimately would be. If Nintendo didn't have the Wii, features like gyro wouldn't be in so many games on all the systems.

Gimmicky hardware like the 3DS (which was really great and didn't harm the experience), the DS - again, a really great system. The idea that all companies should produce games and then what, they're playable essentially in the cloud? Games may go that direction, ultimately, but half the fun of new hardware is well...hardware. Innovation is important. There's going to be so much more to come with interaction whether it's new controllers, holographic devices, lasers, whatever. To simplify it all into - make games, play cloud, just seems basic.

And in sitting here, there is no justifiable reason to upgrade to a PS5/XSX. Game pass is in the cloud now. Most games are still cross-gen. And most importantly, 60fps w/RT isn't even standard. It was a pitiful upgrade.

Nintendo games usually sell well because their systems are starved of good games. Fans get desperate and will pick up anything decent from Nintendo. When a great game like Zelda comes along, the sales go through the roof.

Who cares about Mario. There's a new one every month, year, day or etc lol.

Odyssey came out in 2017.

So unless we're counting Mario Maker 2 (2019), or some Mario spin offs (golf, party, etc.) there hasn't been full fledged mainline game in 6 years.
