@edhc44: It certainly could be GOTY it's absolutely up to that level... Obviously such judgements depend greatly on what sort of game a person likes but I'd say Prey's better than pretty much everything else I've played this year (I don't have a Switch though, so maybe BOTW is better)....

@mtb1646: Also Metroid:

Playing Prey really gave me flashbacks to playing the first two Metroid Prime games (the 3rd was ... lesser), and that's a very, very, good thing. The feeling of isolation, and freedom (and lack of obvious direction), with the gradual expansion in what you can do and where you can go as you gain abilities. Total Metroid.

Even the aliens had a Metroid vibe to them.

@jski: "Gamespot just tends to be a little more balanced and they seem to really dig into the meat of the game and really think the experience through instead of just zipping through and getting a review out as quickly as possible"

That's the thing, though: this review had all the hallmarks of somebody who just blasted through the main storyline without much care. Prey is the sort of game that really needs to be taken slowly, there's amazing subtlety and detail all over the place, but the game doesn't shove them in your face; you need to find them.

The review author seems to have played some other game by mistake, because his take on Prey is bizarrely off-base. Prey is one of the most subtle and well-crafted games in a long time, way, way better than most games in recent memory, and just an amazingly immersive and affecting experience. [Ok, maybe BOTW is better.]

Really Gamespot, you gotta make sure your reviewers at least play the right game!

@7tizz: An ironclad rule in the software business is that if MS offers to "help" you with something, you run screaming in the opposite direction...

Teaming up with MS is the kiss of death.

@Trinitarian: You're wrong. The latest update is absolutely fantastic.

Some people seem to be so invested in hating NMS that they cannot see past their own bile, and yeah, those people should move on and let those of us who enjoy the game to enjoy it in peace.

@lembu90: Seriously, I don't know what they were thinking when then dreamed up this crap ... "let's keep the puerile boyband aesthetic, but make them all rednecks... and set it in hillbilly land! Those idiot American will eat it up!" ><

So, basically, Redneck Boyband Goes Slumming.

Not only were the demos absolutely dreadful, the vibe this game give off is downright repulsive. This review doesn't really give me much confidence that the actual game is any better....

When's the last time FF was good, anyway? [Sometime in the '90s?]
