Well, based solely on that trailer, I'd say this game looks like a rushed, muddled, cash-grab. Will we ever get a decent game out of a licensed property?

The "weak story" tag is wildly inappropriate. The reviewer is clearly not a DC fan, and maybe not a fan of comics in general. I finished the story mode on Tuesday evening, and thought it was incredible, especially for a fighting game. I'm really starting to question the competence of Gamespot's reviewers. I think this game is a solid 8.5, with the story being one of the highlights.

@DienMan81 @sheatan66 Ask Square Enix, they're the ones bitching about it. Obviously they think it's a fail. Oh, and it's 3.4 million. It's right there in the article that you didn't read.

Really? You know the majority of gamers? Source, please.

Vitriol aside, I don't care about gender unless the story won't let me forget it. TR is a story about a girl growing into a girl hero. She has girl sensibilities, girl problems, and runs around crying, giggling, and prancing through the forest LIKE A GIRL. It's not interesting, it's boring, and it's entirely unrelatable. Protagonists matter, because the story matters. If you're so caught up in the majority, why not cater to it?

Tomb Raider failed because young men don't want to play as a young lady on a journey of self-discovery and affirmation. End of story. The industry wants to shove this "female protagonist" thing down our throats and basically, gamers aren't having it.

Sleeping Dogs was a great game, but wasn't marketed effectively. I think SE overestimated the number of Hong-Kong action movie fans, and the commercials made it look like a GTA ripoff, which it wasn't.

Hitman is just aimed at a smaller segment than most AAA releases. The game was really good, but it's hard for a 13-year old kid to pull himself out of the action packed Halo/CoD universes and adjust to the plodding pace of a cold, calculated contract killer.

I hope they continue to make great games, but find a better IP for the Tomb Raider slot. Maybe now the industry has learned its lesson, which is female characters are great sidekicks (Bioshock Infinite) but poor heroes (heroines).

@bjornborgue While I agree, it's a sequel/companion to the other Bioshocks. I think it's more about brand recognition than anything else.

@shepowy @sheatan66 Arya is an 11 year old tomboy, not a strong woman. Not yet, anyway. Her chapters are fun to read because they are about events, not feelings. The fact that Arya has almost no femininity about her at all is also worth noting.

Look, I'm not a misogynist or a chauvinist, I just find male characters more heroic. Any time there's a female hero, her "heroics" always revolve around the same thing: showing up naysayers, and kicking male characters in the balls. It's boring, overdone, and unrealistic.

It's because men don't sit and fantasize about being a strong woman. It's because I find it difficult to relate to a female protagonist. It's the reason everyone skims through the Sansa chapters in Game of Thrones, et al. Guess who buys video games? Guys. That's the market, and that's who developers aim to please. It's gone pretty well so far.

Video game developers don't have an obligation to the feminist movement, and I don't play games to enhance my perception of modern society. Not every godforsaken thing on the planet has to be in line with someone's utopian ideal.

Female characters are boring for men. Eye candy at best. The End.
