Is this a joke? Halo 3 obviously. Do we really need to argue? Seriously.

Please visit my topic on how to take care of advertisments.Ryo_Kensen

Kensen, one point is -- the user shouldn't have to do all of that just to get rid of the ads. That's ridiculous, and it's a design flaw on Gamespot's part.

And for those who don't see what I'm talking about -- I just got another one.

I'm just bringing this up because Gamespot obviously wants ideas and feedback to make the site better, and as a web designer, keeping ads like this from happening is just one thing you could do. If you care or not -- that's your thing, but I'm just suggesting it. It does annoy me, and there'll be users out there who wont know what the hell to do when it happens. Not everyone on the internet is exactly smart.

And another point made earlier -- it does slow down the loading of the site.

I have never had any problems like that in both IE and Firefox, just block pop-ups from here in IE. (I dont have them blocked and that doesnt happen 0_0 )frantic190

Looking at the front page, it could just be a bug or loading problem.

Under the news there something called "Ad Feedback" and several times that little box would actually completely hover over the news.

Though that doesn't stop some of the advertisements that definitely took over, purposely, the front page just about. Gamespot knows what I'm talking about. It doesn't happen all the time, but it shouldn't happen ever.

Haha, wow, I didn't see this posting, but it just shows how bad this advertisement stuff is.

The point is, people, is that the content shouldn't be blocked ever like it is from these advertisements. There's a lot of cleaner ways they can advertise, and still get the money that they are getting to keep their servers and employees running.

As a web designer, I know how important it is to keep this in mind: Make it as easy to the user as possible.

You shouldn't annoy your userbase like that. That's just a design flaw that needs to be fixed. It's minor, I know, but it's just irritating. There's people who are really slow in this world, and if they see stuff like the news blocked -- what are they going to think and do?

You could either subscribe or start using Firefox and install the ad-blocker extension. I don't think things will change, though I never remember the ads being that annoying.SolidSnake35

The user shouldn't have to go through all of that work though. None of those news listings and the such should ever be blocked like that from an advertisement.

Any of the web developers who work on this site should know what I mean. If not, I'll take screen caps if I ever come across these problems again.

On Gamespot, there are certain checkpoints through level ten which allow you to do certain things on the site, such as post videos, write reviews, etc. There are a lot of account suicide threads nowadays, and they tend to be really annoying. I figure that maybe if Gamespot put in somekind of rule in which you have to be a certain level to begin your posting, such as five maybe, we would see less account suicide threads. Maybe even level 10. I think that way, if people really love the site, they'd wait to be able to post in the forums. If they planned on spamming, then they'd get bored in the wait and stop. GunnerVIII

Account suicides would still exist, and will always exist. It's just going to happen in this type of setting.

Now if everyone had to pay a monthly fee or something to use the forums, then people would think twice -- but, if a payment thing was brought up, people would move somewhere else to talk, and Gamespot doesn't want to lose their user base. I'm sure, anyways.

It's good to have advertisements here and there if you would like to make a profit from a website, I understand, but why are some of the advertisements covering things like the news?

Recently, as I go to the home page, sometimes a Bioshock Ad, or a sprite ad, would completely block the news on the right hand side, and other aspects of the website. Sure, I could refresh, or wait for them to go away -- but the user shouldn't have to go through all of that.

Has anyone else had any annoying encounters with the advertisements?

Due to the money Gamespot makes from them, I doubt they'll stop it -- but, you never know.

People here ask that question so many times. Maybe this'll explain it better than most people can.

I wish all games had that much care put into development. I'd certinally have a bigger library.

What do you guys think of it? If you don't know what it is, here's a video I made for it.

It comes on every Friday on the History Channel, and it touches on all the different martial arts. As a martial art fan and practitioner, I'm glad they finally made a show like it.
