Until I can put something like an 8 TB Corsair Force MP400 NVMe M.2 card inside the PS5, I'm not going to even consider buying this console. Having to copy games from external storage to internal storage just to be able to play the games is a joke. I'm using a LaCie 8 TB external hard drive (240 MB/s) with my trusty PS4 Pro and there I can play games right from the external drive. I even replaced the original internal hard drive with a 2 TB Samsung SSD, but the fact that the storage space is not shared and you're forced to select between internal or external storage for your games is a crappy solution. I was really hoping Sony could have made a much better and convenient approach to using extra disk storage with the PS5, but no such luck, apparently.

The same is going on here in Norway, sadly. When the consoles were put up for pre-order, it turns out many of those ordering the consoles were really just out to make a quick buck. They knew the consoles would be scarce, but also in extremely high demand, so the opportunists decided to crush the dreams of people genuinely in the market for a PS5. On our largest online market place "finn.no" you can now find scalpers trying to charge as much as 5 times the recommended retail price of a PS5. Of course you would hope people are smart enough to keep their cool and not do anything rash, but this is psychology. I'm afraid too many are so afraid of losing out they would be willing to get one of those consumer loans with extra high interest rates just so that they can get their hands on a PS5 now, even one at an extortionate price. That's my worry. People are being taken advantage of and I find that unacceptable.

I bought the Days Gone Special Edition when my regular online retailer offered it at the same price as the standard version only shortly after its release. I played it for a few hours and it wasn't bad; it just couldn't hold my interest in the long run. The game I got hooked on, despite its flaws, was Dead Island (Definitive Edition). Yes, it was repetitive, but with headphones on and sitting in a darkened room, it's easily the most fun I've had since I bought my PS4 Pro. Having said that, despite games coming out with all sorts of bells and whistles these days, I find myself returning again and again to a completely different game and genre: Pinball FX3 from Zen Studios. I just love the artwork, the animations, the game mechanics and the simplicity of the gameplay. It's all about timing. Quick to pick up, quick to put away. Very handy when work gets in the way or you're suddenly busy doing something else 🙂.

Unfortunately this is just confirmation that some games players are in need of psychological help. Sitting in front of a PC or console playing for hour after hour instead of socializing with other people could explain why someone would do this. Gaming is, for some, a complete escape from reality, which is problematic if you're not a well-adjusted person leading a normal life. Sadly, in this world we live in today there are a lot of people with varying degrees of mental health issues yet to be diagnosed, but they are still mostly functional and may therefore appear "normal". A regular person wouldn't be so petty and irrational he/she would issue a death threat to a games publisher over a delayed release date of a GAME.

I don't know. This ball park figure of approximately 1 % of PS4 games not working on the PS5 is giving some discomfort until we know which titles they are talking about. I can't believe it's any of those AAA titles released over the years, but it could be some of those which are not PS4 Pro-enhanced. Or some obscure game that is part of a very small niche market. I do find it questionable that backwards compatibility is a possible issue with every new iteration of a PS console, but at the same time the changes in hardware are so significant it's quite simply impossible to cover all bases. Coming from a PC gaming background, the issues with backwards compatibility have always been a complete joy (not!) when upgrading to newer Windows versions. Most games might be able to install and run in Windows compatibility mode, but unfortunately there have been exceptions. So to those of us who've dabbled with this before, we know all too well about the risks of seeing a game not willing to run on a specific platform. But I assume some people will perform a "jail break" on their PS5 systems to install software emulators that can run the old PS1/PS2/PS3 games alongside PS4 and PS5. If Microsoft can make their new console completely or almost entirely backwards compatible, I'm pretty certain Sony could do it too. Just a bit disappointing it probably will be done be a third party, which will most likely be deemed a system hack. But if you have authentic copies of the games and not pirated ones, I'm all for someone doing Sony's job for them. As long as the system is not compromised in any way.... I think I would be more comfortable with a third party outfit officially co-operating with Sony to create that extra backwards compatibility.

@nilsdoen: Yeah, I'm afraid I'm one of those crazy enough to splash some serious cash on both brand new full-price PS4 games and lots of cheap classics. 170+ and counting, if I saw correctly. So that external hard drive is getting a workout. Don't know when I'll find time to play them all, however. I guess that's a firm "never" 🙂. I do buy physical copies mostly, so I can always sell the ones I have tried, but didn't really fancy.

@nilsdoen: I can recommend using an external hard drive. I've invested in a LaCie 8 TB external drive with a 240 MB/s transfer time which I'm using with my PS4 Pro. Now knowing that the PS5 will only get an 825 GB SSD drive, buying a spacious and speedy external drive will most likely be necessary this time too.

I have followed The Walking Dead slavishly on TV since episode 1 (never read the comics, though), but the show's become boring and predictable. I miss Glenn. When he was around, the show had some spark in it. Now it's limping on its last legs. It both shows and feels. I can't see the show continuing beyond season 10 unless they get some new blood with proper pulling power (charisma) and shake up the story lines. There is nothing that is surprising, scary or shocking about the show anymore, IMHO. But that could be me just getting too old for this sh*t ?.

Well, it's not a ban. Just pay a little more to atone for your dirty gun toting killing sprees in any FPS game and you're good. You gun-luvin' scoundrels, you ?. Because OF COURSE you can connect the dots between playing violent games and that of being a dysfunctional person in society due to mental health issues AND still with access to real-life guns. Being around guns all the time and having easy access to them never was a problem. Oh no, sir. We have to blame interactive games, violent movies and anything that potentially dulls your senses and influences you to do bad things and make the wrong choices. Any other factor that could screw up a life, like a violently or sexually abusive upbringing, bullying in school, failure to meet expectations from parents and those closest to you, not getting a steady job and paycheck and thus struggling hard to make ends meet. Those are things that can break someone and in some cases the person wants to lash out at the world around them to, in their eyes, get justice/revenge and make one last attempt at getting some resemblence of "acknowledgement", no matter how twisted. Normally I believe playing violent games is far down on such a person's list, but with generous access to real-life guns allowing mentally unstable people to kill people around them, isn't it easy to just point the finger at gaming and completely ignore the bigger picture?

PS! I'm assuming this bill is backed by NRA, as it targets gamers acting out in a virtual world and not some random person shooting up their real-life school or neighbourhood?

Hm, how can a game with a 6 year developement cycle be considered "rushed". This is awfully similar to the Duke Nukem Forever travesty. Should have learned back then and not pre-ordered the Collector's Edition, although the powerloader is a small redeeming factor ;-) .
