@schu: The dev doesn't matter - Activision's influence will warp whatever is made by force.

Yea, that is my concern for sure.

I love this notion that we can somehow remove "crunch" while simultaneously having deadlines that we don't want to be flexible with.

of course it requires delays

@Nasuke1: 40 years from now CD Projekt Red will be referenced to as prophets.

Incorrectly of course since they're probably just borrowing and not introducing new ideas. We'll see.

@schu: Well, obviously Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be better, but there's plenty of cases where development hell has wreaked havoc on games. However, Duke Nukem Forever is a really good example here because, like CDPR, 3D Realms refused publisher money until the very end, when it was clear that they weren't going to be able to release on their own. At some point, the money runs out.

OK, I can appreciate that comparison to at least see why you made it, but I still don't think it really applies in the same way. This game is not in development hell due to poor choices etc. Not like anything comparable to Duke Nukem at least.

@tsunami2311: Yeah, no, because that's never been the case. All games have some problems, some worse than others. Glitches and exploits are the foundation of speedrunning, and plentiful in many older games, even some critically acclaimed ones. Eternal Ring, a game I love, is replete with glitches and bugs, including instances of enemies shooting through walls which are about as fun as that sounds.

Also, the last time someone said "when it's done," the result was Duke Nukem Forever. Like @stiefjac said, there has to be a point where the deadline has to be met to start making money. This isn't Activision or EA keeping people on long crunch periods year after year making COD and Madden sequels. After eight years of development, something has to give.

are you seriously trying to compare Cyberpunk 2077 to Duke Nukem?

Why should he have to defend himself??? Many people have to 6 or 7 day work weeks and even 12 hour days sometimes. That’s how things get done when a company is behind. (Myself included) Have you grown so soft that you actually think this is abusive? Do you want the game or not???

The game would be just as good a few months later. Doesn't matter like literally at all.

Valorant is a 9 for me easily. Love the game. There are some complaints I have, but it will evolve over time.
