A PASSIONATE GAMER-
GameSpot was the main site I came to for all my gaming news back '03 when I became really passionate about gaming and wanted to know all the latest info. I had just got Xbox Live a couple months after its debut along with a >POS< PC that I let my friend pick out for me, considering he was knowledgeable in computers as well as being a certified genius. I was blind to what Pc had to offer me with gaming so I chose to remain a "Windows for Dummies" guy and stuck with consoles.
I was in my early 20's in 2003 and mainly concerned about marijuana, money, my girl, and gaming. Many a night my ex-girlfriend sat on the couch as my boys and I would play Midtown Madness 3 ( online part) , Splinter Cell, Halo,etc.. I've always liked games since I can remember, but I didn't get consistent until my early 20's where I stopped trading my games in and accumulated 65 games taking up 2 DVD racks that flanked both sides of my small entertainment center.. I had so many games that I started organizing the games with their sequels as well as their genres. I became Xbox "fan-boy" and with the advantage Xbox had over PS2 with the broadband hook up and Xbox Live !!! By golly!!! it was a HUGE advantage! I can still remember what was said in my first encounter with someone using the Xbox Live mic. I get into a game lobby and in a nervously-awkward voice I say, " Hello?" a few seconds later a voice simply responds, " NIGGER!" This is absolutely a true story and in hindsight it was the beginning of what my friends and I used to call "MIC MUSCLES". Its simply trash talking evolved-- knowing the person on the opposite end couldn't do a damn thing to you no matter what, and the levels of shit talk were astronomical. All the racist trash talk wasn't enough to deter us from gaming/competing online, honestly I never let it affect me..... see because there is only one single sure-fire way to get into your a players head and force and tug at his/her emotions.... and that is TO WIN.
All my friends were hardcore PlayStation loyalist arguing that everything from the " PS2 controller just fits your hands better" or " Playstation has more games". The arguments would get tense .... someone had to win this debate decisively and when I came home with Midtown Madness 3 and let my boys loose online where competition was on a whole new level, actually taking those self proclaimed skills you thought you had , mixing it up with some trash talk over the mic, and try your damnedest to keep that beautiful golden rabbit hovering over your car the longest before time ran out or accumulate the set time limit to win. MM3 online was sooo awesome plus it was an Xbox exclusive ( console wise). You could see it in their loyal PlayStation eyes that my friends were starting to take a serious interest in Xbox now.. Then I showed them Splinter Cell and that was probably the nail in the coffin
All of a sudden I needed an HDTV and saved up 2 thousand dollars in a couple a few weeks and bought me a 50 in. rear projection Tv ( pictured on the side) because I wanted to see my games in a better resolution and what is better resolution if there is no home theater system to compliment it..lol. Can you blame me, I was a young 20, making 700 - 1000 dollars a week , with my own apartment.
