Got a decent computer, had a 500 W True power PSU. AFter 4 years I think that the PSU finally crapped out, and I have been out of the game for a while now so I have no idea what is standard anymore. What would be a suitable replacement?

Alright, thanks guys, I have built my own PC before, but that was almost 4 yars ago and I have been out of the game ever since. I'm helping a friend buy a computer for college now, and the budget is sub $900. He wants to go desktop too.

I've been out of the loop about PC hardware for a while now, so I really need some help on purchasing a Desktop computer for college. Just some Q's I have...

XP or Vista?

Is 1gb of RAM still standard?

Graphics card is not important at all, just some integrated stuff should do fine.

Just go ahead and throw out your ideas guys, and I'd really appreciate it.

Half-Life Series. Most origional? So-So. Implementation to make you feel like a living breathing part of that story? Top-Notch.

I would prefer one with an easy set up over extreme speed.

If money is absolutely no object as you say, then just go to town and get yourself a QX**** processor and two 8800Ultras in SLI.

However, if you don't have a couple thousand dollars to spend, get an 8800GT and either a Core 2 Duo or Quad depending on how much you can spend.

Building a computer is about as hard as using Legos.
