I just sold 4GB of Kingston DDR2 Ram, 667MHz on eBay for 34.99 w/o original packaging... there were 4x1GB sticks.

Thank you all!! I'm a very cheap person (in case you can't tell), and I bought a few of these parts used; the most expensive part was the processor, at 74.99 new :D

Andadamosmaki, I actually spent lots of time looking for a good PSU cause I've heard horror stories about people buying cheap power supplies, and I found that one for $41 dollars practically new, and I heard it was a great power supply for the price.

Thanks for the good comments everyone!!

Well considering you already have a decent cpu and a great PSU you can always upgrade to a fast midrange gpu down the road I will also suggest getting an aftermarket cooler like the coolermaster TX3 for about $15-20 and overclock that athlon to 3,7-3,8 ( which should be easily achievable with that cpu )

Okay, good idea!! I also am wondering; I have the 4GB of DDR3 Ram, at 1600MHz. Is that compatible with the X3 455, or does the MHz rating not matter??

Hey guys, I have completely updated my PC quite a bit, and I was wondering what you all thought of it. Two things; One, this is not meant for serious hi-tech gaming, only fairly light gaming and stuff. Second, I bought all the parts together for just under $200, so it's a cheap but efficient rig.

PARTS;

-Amd Athlon II X3 455 Rana Tri-Core Processor @3.3GHz

-ASUS M5A78L-M LX+ Motherboard, AM3+ Socket

-4GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 @1600MHz

-Antec EA-650 SLI 80+ Approved Power Supply

-Gigabye 8800GT 512mb Graphics Card

Thoughts?

Dear people...

I have just installed the new 8800 GT that I got in the mail, and I have one word for it... outstanding.

Compared to newer cards, it may be subpar. But before this card, I had Skyrim on all Low settings, 800x600, and I was getting about 15 FPS average. FIFTEEN!

This card, however... so far, on all Medium settings (no AA or AF), 1024x768... 65 FPS!!!! SIXTY FIVE FRAMES PER SECOND! Absolutely fantastic! SO I wanted to thank everyone here for their support, it helped quite a bit!

Dear All,

I am now aware that it is a bit... outdated. Thanks for all the input, it really helped me out a bit. Until I ACUTALLY build a new PC (new motherboard and all that), I'm gonna keep this card, but I'll definitely look into some of the others!

Another question... AMD or Intel? I'm on a budget, so I'm most likely going for the AMD Phenom, but I was just wondering what you thought.

Thanks everyone... I remember a few years ago when the 8800 cards (GT, GTX, GTS, Ultra) were like, some of the best cards out there... I guess my mindset hasn't changed too much since!

Wow, what an excellent combination!! Thank you very much for that! I have only been doing computer stuff for a couple years now, and I'm still a little new to the motherboard area, so i appreciate the help, thanks!!

Oh, and how can I tell if this would fit in my Inspiron 531 case? I COULD buy a whole new case... but I'd prefer not to.
