Trouble is you either have these corrupt oligarchies or you get a radicalized islamic govt. It's a lose-lose situation. It's a shame that they can't have a nice secular/democratic government. People can then practice religion freely but not have it government mandated.

Since when is this movement lead by radicals?

since the muslim brotherhood threw its hat in.

eh that doesn't really mean anything. it's a popular mostly decentralized movement.

overthrowing the Egyptian government is a great thing to do; it's an unjust thing. I hope Saudi Arabia is next.

I'm saying it's a trivial issue. It's like writing thousands of threads about why skateboarding should be legal in public parking lots. There are far more important issues such as the economy, rights issues, health care, taxes, etc. I'd rather focus on those issues than on why one mind altering substance is arbitrarily legal and another is illegal.

I don't understand. can people not talk of something they feel is important? plus it's actually way simpler to discuss mostly than something like healthcare.

I want to know what OT's obsession with marijuana is. It's just a drug. Sure it could be legal, but who honestly cares. There lots of things that should be legal that aren't. Why don't you guys make obsessive topics about those things as well? Hell, saccarin was just found to be non cancer causing. Don't see you celebrating that.

sonicare
the research on that is still pretty contentious. marijauana is a huge part of our culture and it makes criminals out of people who would otherwise be perfectly law abiding citizens. I think that's the issue.
It's about as harmful in long term use as alcohol and tobacco. I don't want to use it, but why not let the folks who do have at it? Is saturating prisons in the war on drugs with non-violent pot users really serving society?Danm_999
I am almost positive that chronic use of marijuana looks pretty good on your body and mind compared to alcoholism or a tobacco addiction. people who defend alcohol so often forget alcoholics.

I'm pretty sure most people here are not only old enough to vote, but indeed do so. I am equally certain that Sarah Palin will win the nomination

[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"] well no, but don't you think we should encourage that? although beer actually is way harder than growing anything on your own because it requires rather a lot of equipment.HoolaHoopMan

Well I do think it would be a good idea if people had their own gardens, however I merely used it as an analogy, I wasn't demonizing it.

However I would say that brewing beer is easier. You have to manually tend to a plant through out it's life until harvesting it. With beer you really only have to create the Wort in one day and let it brew for a couple of weeks depending on what style you're going for.

it's a much larger financial investment and requires a lot of space typically

[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"]

it's not very ridiculous though. I think people need to become more self-sufficient in general. during WWI, gov't propaganda encouraged citizens to develop their own private gardens so that more rations could be given to the troops. so, you see, the gov't actually was ok with that kind of thing because it was strategically and commercially advantageous. now, agriculture has become another industry of mass production and subpar product. what I'm getting at is that growing your own weed, or growing your own anything, is not so difficult, and that organic food, though beneficial to the public health, is not as actively encouraged today as it should be.

HoolaHoopMan

It is when you take it into perspective to what I was saying. Growing weed is just as time and energy intensive as growing tomatoes and other plants. Sure some people do grow their own, but the vast majority do not because it's cheaper and more convenient to buy it at the store. The same would apply to weed.

He explicity stated that everyone would grow their own thus the government would make nothing off of legalizing it. If that were true we would see everyone growing their own food and brewing their own beer, however that isn't the case.

well no, but don't you think we should encourage that? although beer actually is way harder than growing anything on your own because it requires rather a lot of equipment.

Definite caffeine addiction.

I have had periods where I have quit caffeine, but I always seem to fall back into the addiction.

Thankfully that's all though. I was at one point somewhat worried I would be at risk for alcohol addiction, but I proved to be self aware enough to keep my control.

Oddly enough, my caffeine addicition at it's worst seemed to encourage an alcohol addiction.

LostProphetFLCL
yeah that's not good though. alcohol and caffeine is bad news.
