[QUOTE="MortalDecay"] You can install 360 games on the HDD, but it's purely opional, unlike the PS3. The 360 doesn't force you to install.airman053
Yes it's optional but you get some big bonuses when installing a game. It reduces the heat output by the 360 by a lot, reducing the risk for RROD. It also makes the 360 substantially quieter and it reduces load time some. The downside is it installs the entire game to the HD. Usually 3-5 GB depending on the game. Although when you're done playing a game heavily you can delete the intall easily.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but do you still have to have the game disk in the system to play it?
Nah it's not a dumb question, I thought the same thing, then popped up the issue of easy piracy. The answer is yes if you do install to your HDD you still need to have the disk in the tray to play the game. Honestly when this update dropped I installed all games, but with a 20gb HD my thing filled up quickly with DLC and now I don't even install them. I don't notice much difference in load times for many of the games, like Mass Effect.
