I could not stand this new FF16 and gave up after 11 hours. I don't mind the dmc combat but when it takes me 20 hits or so to kill one enemy and 200 hits or so to kill the bigger enemies like the trolls and such, im more bored of that button mashing than a diablo game. They also rarely hit back so it becomes a boring slog of button mashing until their health expires. The characters are not interesting to me at all. And the long and extremely frequent cutscenes finally just pushed me out of it. Long, dull, irritating cutscenes when i want to explore the world. But then its not much of a world when it is extremely linear in how you just keep going forward through a bridge or under some tree limbs. Then another cutscene. It just wants to be a damn movie.

It looks nice and the spectacle fights sure are stylish but that is not enough to keep me entertained. Pass on this tripe.

@last_lap: Sure I'm not old old, but I've been playing games for 25 years and after watching all of these new showcases, I couldnt get excited for one game. Not a single one. I used to be able to find things at these shows I could anticipate but so far its all mostly been a lot of "been there done that" feelings for so many of these games.

Now I did say all showcases, not just the xbox one, but for childish-looking: Fable, Monkey island expansion for Sea of Thieves, South of Midnight, several indies from Summer Games Fest like Palworld, Prince of Persia, FaeFarm, Party Animals, pretty much all the anime games (to be expected of course), Jusant.

If it wasnt childish, they mostly came across looking dull and not as fun as the games they look like they are trying to emulate. Lies of P looks like bargain bin Souls with those slow wind up attacks from enemies....yawn too easy, just like Code Vein. Not interested in mmos but I'm glad the fallout 76 and TESO stuff was shown for those into that I guess. Clockwork Revolution looks exactly like Bioshock Infinite, maybe it will be good but it looked way too familar.

I dont know. I couldnt find any shits to give for any of this stuff. Hence why I feel like maybe Im just getting old. Clearly people are interested going off this thread and others. But thats how I feel.

I wonder if I'm just getting old (31 now) because everything looked boring to me from all of these showcases. Starfield looks average, Avowed looks average, some of the indies looked neat from the pc gaming show....thats kinda it. Everything else just looked super boring. Lots of childish looking games this year.

Oh well, I figure I'll start working through some Skyrim mods finally to prepare for Skyblivion and Skywind.

Looks great but I'll be waiting quite a while because I wanna get all 3 of these remake parts on Steam. Oh well.

Everything leading up to that last reveal was pretty boring though, to be honest. Nothing else looked good.

@lebanese_boy: i can't speak to all of those but i do remember the old pokemon red, yellow, and blue back in the day. I remember having yellow while all my friends had red or blue and I had asked what was different. They had said outside of the pikachu following you around, not much. Still the same map. That disappointed me then just as this TotK disappoints me now. Compared to all of the other Zelda entries, this one is the most iterative....it bothers me so much but hey, im over it now. I wanted to go in kinda blind for TotK but I will not be doing that again. Next time I'll make damn sure I'm not heading into a new game with the same map as last time.

@mesome713: Bud, I've beaten TOTK and did all 152 shrines. I have 125 hours into it. Like I said, it's not a bad game. It is fun. The youtube content has been hilarious. But it has been wayyyy too samey for me coming off of beating BotW twice. It gets a 7.5/10 from me. Kinda disapointed.

@Maroxad: You gave me one example. From the 1980s. I'm talking about now with the big open worlds and the fancy graphics that studios love to show off to garner praise and anticipation.

Look I'm glad everyone is having fun with this game. I had some too. But 10/10 masterpiece, this game certainly is not. Which is what that Synthetic Man youtube video was going on about. It adds some new things and landscapes but a fresh new experience, I'm sorry I can't see it. You didn't have all of this uncovering maps with towers, doing mini puzzle shrines, and unlocking story memory bits in Ocarina of Time, nor Majora's Mask, or A Link to the Past or Between Worlds, or Twilight Princess. Each new game was fresh and different and the map was changed up or took place in a completely new place. This map is exactly the same with some terrain changes and some new areas above and below. That is not enough for me after a 6 year wait from BotW.

@Maroxad: So in 2029 if Nintendo came out with a third Zelda game like these last two, with the same exact map, reused music, reused enemies with some added ones, same formula with the shrines, towers, and temples, and same formula with how the story is uncovered but if they added in a few different environments like a dark and light world or something that still gets to reuse this entire Hyrule map with some crazy new mechanics...

Does that game get 10/10 masterpiece OMG I CAN'T PUT THIS THING DOWN from you? Because I feel like at some point, this same reusing of formulas and environments will have to be tiring eventually.

They literally took the old map, heavily modified it with new features, and then added 2 new maps on top of that. Hardly the exact same map. In fact, around 70% of stuff I explore in TOTK is new. This is a pretty common thing for sequels to do if they take place in the same area. Has been the norm since Ultima 4->5.

Same formula? Well yeah, it is a sequel, not a new IP. Most sequels do not re-invent themselves.

As for the rest, the Towers, and Temples were significantly different from their BotW incarnation. In BotW they were a climbing challenge, in TOTK they were a puzzle or a side quest. Temples were significantly different from the divine beasts of BotW. Reused music was a downer, but they added enough new enemies for it to feel fresh. Using old enemies again, is a norm in the industry. Are we gonna lambast D&D for still having beholders, illithids (aka Mind Flayers) and mimics?

The only good argument you have is the reused music. Which yes, sucked when GW2 did it, and sucked when it is done here.

I cannot think of a single game where a sequel has taken the SAME map and added to it and it is now a new game. DLC, sure it happens all the time. But with Nintendo, you don't really expect them to take the exact same map, change it up a bit, add some new landscapes and now it is a new game. Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim - different maps. Fallout 3, New Vegas, 4 - different maps. Super Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2, and Odyssey - different maps. Red Dead 1, 2 - different maps (then 2 added a section where you get to explore around a couple of familar areas from RDR1). GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, 4, 5 - different maps. You can maybe say Los Santos is the same map from San Andreas as it is in 5, but then they changed that area up so that it is different enough, 9 years had passed between San Andreas and GTA 5, and whole new characters and story and lots of new features that it didn't feel too samey.

TOTK literally feels like BotW. Exactly the same for me. All of those same formula things I listed were a huge bummer to me. I had my fun with it but this has been the most copy/pasted Nintendo game I have ever played. Mechanics and all the cool shit you can do with them are neat but not enough to change up the experience. So what if I can make a fire-breathing car with laser beams coming out the sides and maybe I can make it fly with the fans too? It's still the same map with the 4 areas in the same spots with the same castle in the middle. It was way too familar for this to feel like a brand spanking new game. I cannot believe how many people just go "goo goo gah gah" over all of the recycling from BotW just because they added a few new landscapes, a few new enemies, and new building mechanics. It is the same map.

@Maroxad: Oh good, I have done a lot then if that is what you are saying is interacting with the mechanics. Yes, I have fused many things to my weapons, sometimes things I wouldn't normally think would work. Yes, that was fun. I fused a shield onto a shield. Silly. And I have fused the eyeballs and the chu chus and many things to arrows and swords and whatnot. And I have created lots of vehicles myself and experimented with rockets on shields and blasting away on platforms. It's very neat.

Now for those of us that are more traditional Zelda fans, is it a crime to want a fresh new experience on top of the crazy new mechanics? Like, thank you Nintendo for making the game similar to Garry's Mod. Can we have a new map please? More than 4 temples and the big bad boss like the last game. Much different music and not reused in all the same areas? Put in different ways to uncover the map or just not at all? Perhaps switch from 152 shrines to having puzzles be more incorporated into temples/dungeons to flesh them out more?

No, just remake the old game and add some neato mechanics, put in some sky islands and a big wasteland underground and call it a day.
