@stan_boyd the genophage and geth and whatever else were all sub-plots, quaint points of interest, and from a storytelling perspective, not part of the main plot, and not part of the ending.

and if we are getting technical, mass effect 3 is the3rd act, and the ending of a story is the resolution, and the resolution is in the case of the mass effect series, the last 10 minutes where the plothreads are "resolved" . all the changes are in the falling action, not the resolution. the way things play out is also very heavily influenced by the reaper threat and can change drastically depending on how the main plot is resolved, so in an artistic sense, not even the sub-plots are resolved if the main plots ending is still as bananas as it currently is.

@stan_boyd ...except memento and fight club were designed from the beginning with the twist in mind, it wasnt a last minute alteration by 2 people that was not subjected to any kind of peer review. it also means the game basically has no ending since the main plot is still unresolved, so id hardly call sacrificing a finished story for a twist clever writing.

@Shintaro15 it is virtually the same crap molyneux pulled, the main difference is that we all kind of expected it from him after the first, and fable wasnt nearly as anticipated as ME3.

with molyneux part of you never really took him seriously, so it wasnt that offensive. bioware had a history of quality and a dedicated fanbase they were in the process of alienating, so not delivering on promises was much more serious because of that.

@mikezero83 im sorry child, but your parents lied to you: appreciating what you have is BS. if you dont whine and scream and throw a tantrum, no one will ever listen, and nothing will ever change or improve.

@MooncalfReviews any opinion that lets someone enjoy something they know to be built on a lie four times over is, if not invalid, very unhealthy. opinions are not formed by a random opinion generator, they reflect experience and personality, and this guy reflects either a very innocent or very self-deceptive personage.

do you mean to say he might actually like the ending? because that is not a matter of opinion. liking pineapple on pizza or thinking ponytails look good on men are opinions: things that i cannot understand but cannot rationally refute. i can, and have, gone on for hours and pages of text about how ME3's ending ignores basic stroytelling to such an offensive degree that no sane human can enjoy it, and those that say they do, which has been almost no one, is either lying or not a sane human. most people either hate it, dont let it bother them, try to defend it by saying it was all a dream, or chose to enjoy the rest of the game, which is what i believe buzznugget to be doing.. these are all perfectly valid opinions. actually, truthfully enjoying the ending? impossible.

@0perki and encouraging bad journalism is the path to happiness? if its a choice between hollow fantasy and self-destructive catharsis, id rather just ignore the whole bloody thing.

@pathosfire you make the relationship between bioware and its consumers sound like an abusive husband and a battered wife. which is disturbingly accurate.

@0perki true, but your supposed to discourage bias, not ask for it.

@buzznugget i honestly, truthfully, and wholeheartedly envy your talent for self-deception. to be able to ignore glaringly obvious flaws so easily, to enjoy the positive elements of things so innocently... its inspiring.

@bugaloo_shrimp so you defend the ending by saying that there is no ending. because if correct, it means the best possible ending is shepard taking a half breath in rubble, the entire plot still unresolved and unsatisfying, meaning the main complaint against the ending is still there, if not more so because its revealed to be a deliberate sequel hook instead of unintentionally horrible.

i know the indoc theory. ive seen the videos. i dont believe it. i believe it is fans projecting meaning onto a disappointing truth, something humans are very good at.

why would bioware spend time and money, taking it away from the DLC they were planning, to make an extended ending if they could look at a youtube video and say, "thats correct" and achieve the same result? how can the ending be built up from the past 3 games when its already been revealed that the ending is an alteration made at the last minute by 2 people?

this whole indoc theory nonsense stinks of fanatic devotion. its something that cannot be proven either way, something based entirely on interpretation, and thus something you can believe that people cant actually prove wrong and is better than the alternative, much more logical reality that creating dozens of divergent choices with the financial and time constraints imposed, as well as the artistic challenge of such a story, was not something bioware was up to task for.
