bioware has spouted the same tired quips about player control since ME2, and its still never been true, why would i believe them now? there is nothing here they havent tried and failed already, nothing but more promises to magically unite the two entirely different styles theyve created with half-measures and fanservice.

this is the video game equivalent of saying, "new look, same great taste!" it only invites more scrutiny and skepticism from those who like the old game, is a mostly empty qualifier, and im just plain sick of hearing it attached to every friggin game bioware announces because they've completely lost faith in their fanbase like the fanbase has lost faith in them. in the world of PR, if you have to constantly explicitly state what you are doing, you clearly arent very good at it.

all i know is... who makes an HD remake of a cel-shaded game? doesnt that sort of defeat the point of style-over-power? needless to say it looks notably worse because half the charm of its graphics is gone. at this point what they need to do is just make a different game, inject some new blood into a name that has been fueled by nostalgia for far too long. the nintendo mainstays have just become too iconic to change OR remain interesting, completely imprisoned by their image and destined to wither away.

its real nice to see the father of one the plainest and most popular FPS franchises this generation actually doing something interesting with the genre; influencing industry standards would be better than the game itself could ever be. seems to be a sort of dramatic take on borderlands, something i could definitely get into; AND microsoft couldnt get xbone exclusivity for it, so i might actually pick it up.

it doesnt have to be a boss fight, but the final fight of a game should absolutely have more dramatic weight than the not-so-epic showdown against marauder shields. i can understand going for the whole "end with a whimper, not a bang" theme, where the fighting has reached the point where its just sluggish and exhausting to shepard, but if that was the case it just wasnt done well. MGS4 managed to do an epic boss fight that deteriorated into an exhausting slog to just be done with it (emotionally, i mean). when your enemy is a gigantic lovecraftian dreadnought, there really isnt any room for a final physical fight against them, but you do need to actually OPPOSE them in some way, not just, ya know, accept one of the three defeatist options their leader gives you...

a movie with a completely unfitting artstyle about a completely unfitting character. yup, sounds like biowares new style. whats with them making anime movies of very western style games? because halo did it? because you continually fail to understand how to appeal to the hardcore fanbase? because the anime style is generally used specifically because it is cheap and quick? what world is this where the last option is the most dignified?

this whole extended cut thing is like giving someone a band-aid after you stabbed them in the groin and let them bleed for a few months. at this point doing anything other than simply admitting you f'd up will just be seen as an insincere and forced attempt to save face.

@flammable_zeus well thats kind of the only way to do difficulty levels, because it requires that the gameplay be flexible enough to change the difficulty of. a real challenge usually only comes from a game with a single level of challenge in mind, designed to present specific and set challenges, and not trying to make the same game cater to vastly different levels of skill.

why do people with kids always have to shove their problems onto the rest of us? you have your fill of challenge every day raising kids, the rest of us need something to you know. at no point in the foreseeable future is humanity ever going to have a lack of time-wasting shlock entertainment to wind down with.

it certainly takes balls to take to the soap box about an issue you helped create. maybe games wouldnt be so easy if you didnt popularize that whole "hide for 2 seconds and your at full health again" system thats at the root of it.
