I think the answer is some people prefer the experience of using consoles. This can also apply to the people who play on Xbox instead of PC even if there is a shared library.
Consoles can only become obsolete when PCs can match or even exceed the advantages of consoles, such as plug-and-play and price. For all its advantages, I feel that I have to be a geek (which I am not) to be aware of PC's positives, and most gamers do not have the time, dedication, or money that most geeks have to switch from consoles to PC.
As a non-geek, I find the technical side of PC gaming quite intimidating which I do not find in consoles. I personally find technical discussions mind-numbing which is the reason I often avoid reading threads on them on this forum.
Would the publisher of Stellar Blade be forced to edit its content so that it can be released in countries like the U.K. or Australia that would ban it instead of rate it? At least the ESRB and PEGI will give their most-restrictive rating (e.g. ESRB's "AO" rating) instead of banning it.
Do Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo want AO-rated games on their system? It will not be an issue with PC as it is an open platform.
@sakaixx: Pandering to an international audience while alienating the original audience. This is the price game series pay for appealing to a broader audience.
I just hope that Yakuza/Like a Dragon does not lose its original identity and become something else because of increased popularity or sales. The same goes with Persona and any other Japanese-developed game.
I used to like turn-based RPGs, but lost the interest after playing Fire Emblem Engage last year. One of the things I disliked about turned-based RPGs is that most things are stat-based, especially if it involes percentages (e.g. why I usually miss hitting an enemy early in the game but improve my hitting accuracy latter in the game by level grinding). Another thing is that battles are not realistic (player, enemy, or computer-controlled ally take turns) and do not reflect how battles are fought in the real world.
@hardwenzen: Weeb usually refers to anime culture. Yakuza is not anime style. It's no more weeb than, say, a Godzilla or Kurosawa movie.
Sometimes, I wonder if people know terms like "weeb" really mean. Users on this forum are using the term left and right, usually to disparage anime and its fans.
I doubt that the Big Three will abandon exclusivity willingly and have their games on every platform. It may require the force of the law to make exclusive games illegal. However, that may be unlikely due to the political clout of the Big Three and gamers do not have an advocacy group that fight for them.
The gamepad should be nothing but calculator inputs
Does Texas Instruments has a reputation for making expensive calculators? Just a thought as I can imagine a home console that is more expensive than the PS3.
