From looking at the titles THQ had, I guess its not so supprising that they went downhill. Red Faction was a great IP but I never really liked the 3rd person. Supreme Commander was sort of like Crysis because of its imense power hungeryness, the vast battles you could have and how everything had its own real time physics. Supreme Commander 2 was an instant flop as soon as they showed trailers, gameplay of it. Homeworld as well? that could have been a huge success, everyone wanted another Homeworld but they never made it.
Maybe it was just this last gen that totally did them over. Bad decisions to change IPs that already worked. Shame really.
@Double_Wide @o0squishy0o Lets start with online multiplayer, that is a social feature, you want to cut that out? In game chat both text and voice, cross game chat, chat group room things, those are very basic social features. Lets exand, who wouldnt want support for futhering their ability to share things with their friends such as friendlists, groups, videos etc. Its not about facebooking everything, its about sharing your experience and unless you are a person with no friends or resent the idea of sharing things then I think alot of people would choose one console over another because of these features being included. I can remember loads of times playing games when crazy stuff happened, I would have loved to been able to show people.
Vague was the wrong word. Broad is what I meant. These consoles cant just say "I play games", they need to shout "I can give you an awesome experience". I understand why people are wary of things being shared, however I dont agree that a closed platform aimed at a single user is what people want. Even this is a form of social media, we are having this discussion and sure you may not like what we or I am saying, however I bet you like the fact you can participate in it.
@Double_Wide Completely relevant comparison. Both have added features that you are saying that should be focused towards their "primary" function. I can agree that some stuff should be prioritised but for anyone to ignore the social media giant would be an idiot. Games are only as big as they are now due to social/sharing. I would also argue to spend extra time making an "extreme" console would raise the price higher and would be a poor business model. The consoles need to be as vague as possible to succede; in that respect.
Feel so old for watching this. I remember being amazed by the graphics of this game when I first got it. I used to love playing LAN games with my mates around their houses. This and MOH and SOF where the FPS of choice.
I thought gamespot lost all of its sense of fun and humour when rich gallup and jeff gerstman left. This show which I have just come across has filled that void. Its no TournamentTV, but still a great watch.
I think this goes to proove that developers usually only have 1 game or series idea in them before they hit a brick wall. I can see why people dislike the guy, its only laughable reasons from the socially awkward idiots. However people fail to realise this guy was behind this gens high-standard. It was Cliff who pushed gears of war which pushed the 360 to upgrade its RAM. I can not think of any new "exclusive" franchise from this gen that is better than gears of war. There is uncharted but I would argue that it has a poor mulitplayer and the gears of war single player isnt that bad to say Uncharted is loads better.
