@Gelugon_baat @nick_capozzoli Yeah it kinda went off the rails as it went on.

That dog, though. Ugh.

@beowulf66677 Thanks! I'll be in the comments for a little longer before shuffling off to bed. Obv. I can certainly respect folks enjoying the game's camp. But to very briefly explain, I felt that a lot of the psychopath battle humor comes from a mean-spirited place--that it's telling the audience "Look at these characters, isn't it funny that they're Asian/bisexual/transgender/etc.?" They're exaggerated, but in a way that just happens to coincide with very old stereotypes. And I think the fact that the targets of these portrayals & humor are so often minorities says something in its own right. Hope that helps explain a little deeper.

Thanks so much for the compliments. They're definitely much appreciated : )

@Yuna08 Hiya! Hard for me to say on the XB1 version, as I haven't seen it in action myself. But Digital Foundry did a great rundown that can probably answer any question you might have: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-vs-dead-rising-3-pc

You can definitely change the resolution--for me it did default to 1920x1080, but you do have to change from 720p to 1080p or Full (native) in the setting just below it in the menu.

@Khalidosan Hi! Thanks for the comment. I wish I could track down a response that I made to a similar comment (the thread's gotten a bit unwieldy, though). I'll try to restate it in brief.

I don't personally believe that I can review a game by asking, as you suggest: "What does this game mean to the millions of gamers who are willing to make a major purchase?" It's important, to me, to be honest and accurate in my review first and foremost, and the only thing I can really be honest and accurate about is my own take. The idea is that I be logical and make a compelling case for my opinion in the review, so that others can look at it and find something interesting, decide if they agree, and come away with an impression of the game's value.

I can't write my review with an eye towards what impressions another person, say, a "regular gamer," would have. Because the take isn't my own, I'd be assuming and guessing about what it might be (and because those assumptions and guesses would come from me, they'd be just as subjective). I'd also argue that the position of this nebulous other, this "regular gamer" is just as subjective as my own. I wrote a little more about objectivity/subjectivity in my larger post in this thread (I think it's still the top comment last I checked, so if you sort by that it should be near the top). Maybe that'll help clarify things.

Thanks again for the comment, and for reading.

@lamprey263 @nick_capozzoli Oh, I'd rather it didn't come off as snide--I do mean it as legitimate criticism. I agree that there's nothing inherently wrong with a game having a muted palette. In the case of DR3, I think it's a mistake though, because the rest of the game aims for more of a fun, zany kind of atmosphere, so the grimdark environments hamper that. I probably could have elaborated on that in the review's text to avoid confusion.

@Zorlac @nick_capozzoli @kozzy1234 "Him" is me, I'm the reviewer ; ) Hi!

I work off of GS's own numerical definitions when I decide on a score here, and here a 3 is "bad"--not necessarily fundamentally broken or unplayable, just "bad."

To your other question: do you think it's odd that I gave the game a 3? Perhaps it's odd that nearly every other site gave it a 7 or an 8?

I've always found it weird that game scores tend to be so homogeneous, myself.

@Zorlac @nick_capozzoli @kozzy1234 Do you think that the only reason someone could find a game "bad" is if it's fundamentally broken? No other reason?
