Hi, Thanks for the help.

Yes Mozelleple112, R1000.00 (Rand) is about $121 (USD).

Yes Bozanimal, I was very happy with that set.

I tried to look for a pair of Bookshelf speakers and get a small amp and then an active sub but so far no luck.

Also I was thinking, wouldnt the sound be better from X530 then the Z506? And since the X530 are on sale that is a good deal (Std price was R1100.00? I know the Z506 are newer but if Im correct it has a lower output compared to the X530?

To be honest, I am a bit hesitant getting the same speakers(X530) again since the sub had died within 5 years (2005 to 2010) or am I just expecting too much from this sytem?

This is the shop that has the X530 on sale: http://www.hificorp.co.za/prods/office-automation/speakers/

Here is another shop: http://www.dionwired.co.za/

Any other suggestions guys?

Hi there,

I have owned the Logitech X530 5.1 system... and it worked great till last year the sub gave up. My friend gave me his spare Home theatre active sub and built in amp. So i connected the Logitech speakers to that and it worked till about a month ago, when that sub/amp died aswel.

Now Im left speaker less and headphones are just not working for me.

First and foremost I live in South Africa,

Budget: R1000.00

Use: mostly for movies and games, not so much music.

Requests: I want something that has good bass.

As far as 2.1 vs 5.1 go havent really made up my mind, which ever sounds better, space isnt an issue.

So far Ive come up with these options:

1. Logitech Z523

2. Logitech Z506

3. microlab FC360

http://www.zapsonline.com/21-ch-speakers/51779-microlab-fc360-21-channel-subwoofer-speaker-2010-version-siml-fc360-.html

4. Microlab FC362

http://www.zapsonline.com/21-ch-speakers/41250-microlab-fc362-2010-version-21-channel-subwoofer-speakers-siml-fc362-10.html

5. Logitech X530

Local store for R599.99

Any suggestions or recommendations would be great.

Thanks

Your best bet is to go HDMI into the receiver, but if that is not an option Optical (tooslink) is the next best because these are your only options to get 5.1+ audio.wooooode
Thats not an option, my system doesn't have a HDMI or Optical (tooslink) input only my TV does. As far as I understand these are my 2 options: 1. Use the standard AV cable that comes with my PS3 and connect that directly to my Sound system and then use my HDMI cable for video only? Or 2. Plug the HDMI cable from my PS3 to HDTV. I'll use that cable for both video and sound. Then plug a RCA sound cable going out of my TV and into my Home theater system.

Okay I did some checking and there's a local shop that has that converter but just my luck, my DVD systems speakers are dying. How do I know? Well I was going to watch a DVD so I put it inside the system and then I noticed that the sound is really soft. I increased the volume to 25, and then it sounded like how it normally does at 15. I found that weird so I checked the connections but they are all fine, so I thought maybe it's my DVD itself but its clean, I tried another disk but its still the same. I followed that up by a search on Google and found a post by some one who had a similar problem with their sound system sounding very soft. So it looks like I'll have to stick to Pro-Logic surround sound for now and then upgrade my system later which is most likely going to be sooner than later. Also do you think I would get better sound if I use the standard AV cable that comes with my PS3 and connect that directly to my Sound system and then use my HDMI cable for video only? Or Should I just stick to the HDMI cable going from my PS3 to HDTV. I'll use that cable for both video and sound. Then plug a RCA sound cable going out of my TV and into my Home theater system. Sorry for the long post.

You can get Pro-Logic surround sound with those cables, fronts will be seperate but the rears are basically the same mono-ish signal out of each side. An optical cable would be better if you're surround sound has it as this will give each channel it's own signal and be much more enveloping in atmospheric games.

nitsud_19

I did some reading on the internet but I thought I should get some advice about my setup, so I could get the best out of it. So do you guys think I would get better suround sound if I get an optical cable and run it from my PS3 to my Home theater system. And then just run the HDMI cable for video only.

I read a discription of your surround sound system and it lookls like you dont have an optical input. If im wrong your best option would be what you just said. HDMI from PS3 to TV for video only and theOptical cable from your PS3 to your Surround sound system for Dolby Digital 5.1 and/or DTS 5.1. Trust me its how mine is set up and it the way to go with a home theatre in a box set up.

Thats the strange thing, I checked my systems spec's out on the internet(I can't find its instruction book) and it shows that it does not have a optical input but I checked the back of mine and there is a conection there that says "Digital In"- is this the optical input?
